The best game to play after Black Myth: Wukong depends on what you want to carry forward: choose Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice for demanding, skill-based combat, Elden Ring for a broader world to explore, or Lies of P for a darker Soulslike challenge. None is a direct replacement for Wukong’s Chinese mythology and Journey to the West setting.
What do you want more of after Black Myth: Wukong?
PlayStation describes Black Myth: Wukong as “an action RPG rooted in Chinese mythology and based on Journey to the West, one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature.” Its staff techniques and mix-and-match spells, abilities, weapons, and equipment help explain why a single “closest game” recommendation misses the mark. The right next game depends on whether you valued combat, bosses, setting, build options, or room to explore. PlayStation’s game page is the source for that description.
The picks below overlap with Wukong in different ways. Similarity does not mean identical pacing, level structure, or mythology: Wukong has challenging action-RPG combat, but it is not defined by the Soulslike label alone. PC Gamer describes its combat as expressive and notes that its level design begins very linearly before opening up after the first few hours. PC Gamer’s review provides that context. Steam’s user-defined tags include Souls-like, Action RPG, Mythology, Difficult, and Open World; those tags are community metadata, not a definitive genre ruling. Steam’s listing shows them.
Best games to play next
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice — for combat-first players
Choose Sekiro if the part you want to repeat is learning enemy patterns and earning victories through deliberate, skill-based combat. PlayStation includes it in its own “More games like Black Myth: Wukong” list, making it a particularly direct recommendation for players who prioritize combat and difficult encounters. It is not a thematic match: its setting is distinct from Wukong’s Chinese mythic world. PlayStation’s recommendations support the comparison.

Elden Ring — for a larger world to explore
Pick Elden Ring if you want your next action RPG to put more emphasis on exploring a broad world. PlayStation also names it among games like Wukong, but the useful overlap is challenging action-RPG appeal—not matching pace, structure, or story. Choose it for the scale of the adventure, not because it reproduces Wukong’s more focused mythological presentation. PlayStation’s list includes Elden Ring.
Lies of P — for a darker Soulslike variation
Lies of P is a strong branch if you want challenging action combat in a darker Soulslike framework. PlayStation includes it alongside Wukong in its recommendations. It does not share Wukong’s Journey to the West basis or Chinese mythology, so think of it as a change in atmosphere rather than a continuation of the same kind of story. PlayStation’s list is the basis for including it.

More specialized alternatives
Nioh 2 — for fast combat and layered systems
Consider Nioh 2 if you want fast action combat with more systems to master, especially weapon options and skills. GamesRadar’s genre guide highlights its ki timing mechanic, weapon skill trees, and yokai powers. That makes it a useful systems-focused comparison, although it is not presented here as an official Wukong lookalike. GamesRadar’s Soulslike guide discusses those mechanics.
Wuchang: Fallen Feathers — an adjacent pick with a caveat
Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is an action-heavy Soulslike set in 14th-century China, released July 24, 2025, according to PC Gamer. Its setting may draw Wukong players’ interest, but it is not simply a safer or closer substitute: PC Gamer’s review contrasts its approach with Wukong’s martial-arts and Chinese-mythology emphasis and gives Wuchang a negative overall verdict. Treat it as a more qualified, curiosity-driven option, not a default recommendation. PC Gamer’s review covers its release date and assessment.

| A broader world to explore | Elden Ring | It shares action-RPG and challenging-combat appeal, not Wukong’s pacing or structure. |
| A darker Soulslike challenge | Lies of P | It is an official PlayStation recommendation, but not a Journey to the West match. |
| Fast combat with weapon and ability systems | Nioh 2 | Its ki timing, weapon skill trees, and yokai powers offer a systems-heavy alternative. |
| A China-set action Soulslike, with reservations | Wuchang: Fallen Feathers | Its setting is adjacent, but PC Gamer’s review is negative overall. |
