Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread

First set Windows to extend the desktop. The exact pop-out action depends on the aircraft and instrument; the AltGr procedure below is documented specifically for the VirtualFly SOLO GA1 G1000 setup, not as a universal MSFS shortcut.
What you need for a second-screen setup
A second monitor is optional: it gives you another physical screen on which to place a detached instrument, but it is not required to use cockpit instruments in MSFS. Windows must recognize the displays, and they should be set to Extend so you can move windows between them. Microsoft explains extended display behavior in its multiple-monitor guide.
No particular monitor size, resolution or refresh rate is established as necessary for this task. The instrument’s detachability depends on the aircraft and its panel configuration; MSFS documentation describes aircraft panel-window configuration, but the reviewed official material does not provide a universal compatibility list. Check the aircraft’s instructions rather than assuming every PFD, MFD or GPS can be popped out. See Microsoft’s aircraft panel configuration documentation.
Set Windows to extend the desktop
- Connect the additional monitor and open Settings > System > Display.
- Select Identify if needed, then arrange the display rectangles to match the screens’ physical positions. This helps the pointer move across the edge you expect.
- Press Windows key + P and choose Extend. In this mode, items can be moved between displays.
Pop out a G1000 display using the documented SOLO GA1 procedure
VirtualFly’s SOLO GA1 manual documents this procedure for its G1000 setup, including MSFS and MSFS 2024. It should not be treated as a guaranteed shortcut for every aircraft, add-on or instrument.

- INCREDIBLE CONTRAST: The VA panel produces brighter whites and deeper blacks. You get true-to-life images and more gradients with 16.7 million colors
- THE PERFECT VIEW: The 178/178 degree extra wide viewing angle prevents the shifting of colors when viewed from an offset angle, so you always get consistent colors
- WORK SEAMLESSLY: This sleek monitor is virtually bezel-free on three sides, so the screen looks even bigger for the viewer. This minimalistic design also allows for seamless multi-monitor setups that enhance your workflow and boost productivity
- A BETTER READING EXPERIENCE: For busy office workers, EasyRead mode provides a more paper-like experience for when viewing lengthy documents
- Load the aircraft and locate its G1000 PFD and MFD in the virtual cockpit.
- Hold AltGr while clicking the PFD and MFD. In the manual’s procedure, the displays appear together in a combined pop-out window.
- Click the pop-out’s plus icon to split the PFD and MFD into separate windows.
- Drag each window to the monitor where you want that instrument displayed, then position and size it as needed.
The VirtualFly manual says to repeat this setup each time MSFS is reopened. Consult the VirtualFly SOLO GA1 manual for the manufacturer’s instructions.
If the pop-out is missing or in the wrong place
- Confirm Windows still sees the monitors. Recheck Settings > System > Display and the Extend setting after reconnecting a screen or changing the PC.
- Check the window’s location. A detached panel may be on another display or outside the area you expect after display arrangement changes. Windows provides options for remembering window locations based on monitor connections and for minimizing windows when a monitor disconnects; review the display settings if those behaviors are getting in your way.
- Verify aircraft-specific support and instructions. The SOLO GA1 G1000 workflow is not evidence that the same action works for other panels. Consult the aircraft or add-on documentation if the relevant instrument does not detach.
- Keep anecdotal reports in perspective. In a January 2025 community post, one user described a G1000 pop-out working on a second PC display but behaving differently on a tablet and after changing PCs. That is one user’s experience, not a general compatibility rule or diagnosis: community discussion.
What to expect from performance and updates
The sources cited here do not establish a reliable frame-rate penalty or improvement from external instrument windows. Community comments about performance conflict, so there is no supported general performance figure to apply to your setup. Microsoft’s MSFS 2024 Sim Update 2 notes, dated 15 May 2025, describe a cockpit-camera fix involving instrument focus and an option to move the EFB when undocked in VR; they do not promise general desktop pop-out performance. See the Sim Update 2 notes.
