There is no single Ironclad deck that is best for every run in Slay the Spire 2. Strength scaling is a flexible plan when the right cards appear; a Corruption/Exhaust engine can be powerful when Corruption comes with card-draw or Block payoffs. Draft around the rewards and relics you actually find rather than forcing a preset list.
Which Ironclad build should you choose?
Use your early card rewards to decide which direction has real support. Lean toward Strength if you find cards such as Inflame, Demon Form, or Limit Break and can build around attacks. Consider Corruption and Exhaust when Corruption arrives alongside Dark Embrace or Feel No Pain. These are practical route suggestions from a third-party guide, not an official ranking or a guarantee of success.
The difference is what each engine converts: Strength increases attack damage, while an Exhaust package can turn Skills into card draw and Block. Neither route is established as statistically superior; the reviewed sources do not provide a controlled comparison of their win rates.
Strength scaling: the flexible default
Strength can improve many attacks, so this route can accommodate a changing draft instead of depending on one fixed combo. Multi-hit attacks can apply the Strength bonus on multiple hits, making them especially relevant when your deck has enough support.

Cards named for this route include Inflame, Demon Form, Spot Weakness, Limit Break, Heavy Blade, Sword Boomerang, and Pummel. Vajra and Red Skull are cited as possible relic support. Treat these as options to evaluate against your deck, not a checklist to complete.
When to lean into Strength
- An early Strength card gives you a reason to prioritize compatible attacks and further Strength support.
- Keep the plan flexible: a card that is strong in isolation may not justify drafting around it if the rest of your rewards do not cooperate.
- Look at how your attacks use Strength. Multi-hit attacks can benefit repeatedly, while the broader value depends on the attacks you actually have.
Corruption and Exhaust: commit only with payoffs
Corruption makes Skills cost zero but Exhaust after use. That can create a powerful engine when supported: Dark Embrace turns Exhaust into card draw, and Feel No Pain turns it into Block. Without those or comparable support, Corruption can leave you short of cards and defense.
Rank #2
Relevant cards named in the guide include Corruption, Dark Embrace, Feel No Pain, Sentinel, Second Wind, Fiend Fire, and Barricade. The important test is not whether you found Corruption alone; it is whether the rest of your deck can benefit from the Skills it exhausts and still meet its defensive needs.
Signs the engine is supported
- You have Corruption plus at least one payoff such as Dark Embrace or Feel No Pain.
- Your deck has Skills you can afford to exhaust without losing essential defense or setup.
- You can manage the timing: zero-cost Skills still leave the deck after use, so playing them all immediately may undermine later turns.
How the two main routes compare
| Route | What it converts | Support needed | Main caution |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strength scaling | Strength into higher attack damage; multi-hit attacks can apply it repeatedly. | Strength sources and attacks that make good use of the increase. | Do not assume an early Strength card guarantees the rest of the pieces will appear. |
| Corruption/Exhaust | Skills into zero-cost plays that Exhaust, with payoffs turning Exhaust into card draw or Block. | Corruption plus support such as Dark Embrace or Feel No Pain, and enough useful Skills. | Corruption without support can cost you cards and defense. |
This is a qualitative comparison based on guide descriptions, not measured head-to-head performance.

When other Ironclad plans make sense
Self-damage/Strength, Barricade/Block, and Perfected Strike are also mentioned as possible directions, but the available guides do not establish them as an exhaustive or current ranking.
- Self-damage/Strength: consider it when the rewards actually support both the self-damage interactions and a way to capitalize on Strength.
- Barricade/Block: treat it as context-dependent. Community discussion notes that its value can vary with the deck rather than making it an automatic pick.
- Perfected Strike: this plan rewards keeping Strike cards, which can conflict with the usual impulse to remove weaker starter cards. It makes sense when you are genuinely drafting into its Strike synergy, not as a generic Ironclad plan.
Why tier lists need a version label
Slay the Spire 2 launched in Steam Early Access on March 5, 2026. Mega Crit says additional content and balance changes are planned during Early Access, and Steam cautions that the game may change further. Card evaluations and build rankings should therefore be read as snapshots, and the in-game card text for your current version takes priority.

For example, SpireForge labels its Ironclad rankings as editorial judgments for patch 0.104.0 and gives June 6, 2026 as its update date. Spire Codex dates its card-tier page July 15, 2026 and says the ratings draw on community-submitted runs; it also warns that co-op context can influence ratings. Those pages do not establish a universal solo ranking or a current official tier list.
Mega Crit has not published an official Ironclad tier list in the cited material, and the available sources do not establish controlled comparative win rates for these builds. Use rankings as prompts for decisions, not proof that a named archetype is best.
