For a slim everyday bag, look at a compact hard-shell pouch; for a trip with a dock and controller, choose a larger storage case. The case descriptions below come from 2022 editorial roundups, so check a current listing for availability and supported models before buying.
Start with your Switch model and what you need to carry
There are three different consoles to account for: the standard Nintendo Switch, Switch OLED, and Switch Lite. GameSpot noted that the OLED is slightly larger than the standard Switch, so a snug, form-fitting shell or grip may not fit both. Its 2022 roundup identified which cases it considered compatible with both models; confirm the exact supported systems on any listing you are considering.
The Switch Lite also needs a model-specific fit. Some cases use a Lite-specific tray, while others are designed just for Lite. For Nintendo’s Hyrule Blue Travel Case, the removable tray holds Lite and can be removed to fit standard Switch or OLED.
Next, decide whether you are carrying only the console and game cards or a fuller setup. Compact pouches are easier to pack but leave little room for a charger or other gear. Larger cases can hold items such as a dock, Joy-Con, cables, or a Pro Controller, but take up more space.

A current official option that fits multiple Switch models
Nintendo’s Hyrule Blue Travel Case product page, accessed October 8, 2026, lists support for standard Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED. Its removable tray stores Lite and comes out for standard Switch or OLED. Nintendo also describes a semi-hard shell, integrated stand, and lift strap; the listing names PDP as manufacturer and gives SKU 120754. Retail stock may vary.

This can be useful if you want one case across different models in a household, but confirm the current product listing and tray configuration before ordering. Its multi-model support does not mean every fitted case or grip will work across the console family.
What to check before buying
- Supported console: Confirm whether the case fits standard Switch, OLED, Lite, or a combination. Check compatibility especially carefully for close-fitting shells and cases used with an attached grip.
- Shell and screen separation: A hard or semi-hard exterior and an interior screen cover or insert are different features. Check the listing for the specific design rather than assuming a shell includes screen protection.
- Capacity: Card-slot counts and accessory pockets vary. Consider how many games you actually carry and whether you need room for a cable, extra Joy-Con, or controller.
- Full setup fit: If you want to pack a dock, charger, or Pro Controller, look for a case that names those items and has dedicated space. A console pouch is not automatically large enough.
- Licensing: Nintendo advises checking packaging for the Official Nintendo Licensed Product Seal and supported systems. Nintendo says licensed products have been evaluated for compatibility and quality; that is not a guarantee of protection from a particular impact.
Choose a screen protector for the exact console
A case and a screen protector are separate purchases, and Nintendo says protectors are not one-size-fits-all. Nintendo Support lists screen sizes of 7.0 inches for Switch OLED, 6.2 inches for standard Switch, and 5.5 inches for Switch Lite. Match the protector to the exact model rather than relying on a general “Switch” label.
