You can play SteamVR games on Meta Quest 3 by streaming them from a VR-ready computer; the headset does not run these PC games by itself. For a story-led, purpose-built VR campaign, start with Half-Life: Alyx. For open-ended space exploration and survival, consider No Man’s Sky. The right choice depends on the kind of game you want and whether your PC and home network can handle wireless PCVR.
How SteamVR games work on Quest 3
Meta officially lists Quest 3 as supported by Steam Link, which streams games from your Steam library on a computer to the headset. The computer needs Steam and SteamVR installed, and Meta’s listing says the computer and headset should be on the same network. Steam Link is a wireless route; SteamVR also supports PC VR headsets through other compatible setups.
Meta’s stated Steam Link requirements are setup guidance, not a guarantee that every game will run well. Its minimum listing calls for a Windows 10-or-newer computer, an NVIDIA GTX 970 or better, and a 5 GHz Wi-Fi 5 router. Meta’s recommended setup specifies an Intel Core i5-4590 or AMD FX 8350 equivalent or better, 16 GB RAM, an NVIDIA RTX 2070 or AMD RX 6600 or better, Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 6E, and a wired connection from the computer to the network. Check Meta’s current Steam Link listing before relying on these requirements.
A Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 6E router matches Meta’s recommended network category, but the label alone does not guarantee a particular frame rate, latency, or image quality. The wired computer connection is part of Meta’s recommendation too.

Best SteamVR games for Quest 3, by player preference
Half-Life: Alyx: for a directed VR story
Half-Life: Alyx is the clearest pick if you want a focused action-adventure built specifically for VR. Valve describes it as “A full-length game built from the ground up for virtual reality.” Set between Half-Life and Half-Life 2, it follows Alyx Vance and her father, Eli, as they resist the Combine in City 17. Valve lists its release date as March 23, 2020.
Its documented play options include roomscale, seated, and standing setups, with teleport, shift, and continuous movement. That range gives players alternatives to continuous locomotion, though individual comfort varies. Valve says computer VR hardware that works with SteamVR works with the game. No Man’s Sky: for open-ended exploration
Choose No Man’s Sky if you would rather explore and survive in a sprawling space setting than follow a tightly directed campaign. Steam describes it as “a game about exploration and survival in an infinite procedurally generated universe” and labels it “VR Supported.” That confirms Steam’s VR-support designation, not a Quest 3-specific performance guarantee. The sources available here do not establish a game-specific recommended GPU or Quest 3 frame rate.

How to choose between them
- Pick by session type: Half-Life: Alyx suits a directed narrative and action; No Man’s Sky suits open-ended exploration and survival.
- Consider movement comfort: if continuous movement tends to bother you, Valve documents teleport and seated options for Half-Life: Alyx. Do not assume other games offer the same options; check each game’s Steam listing and settings.
- Verify VR support: look for the VR-support information on the specific Steam game page. SteamVR’s own page says it supports Vive, Rift, Windows Mixed Reality, and other PC VR headsets; Quest 3 reaches these PC games through streaming rather than running the PC versions natively.
- Check the PC and network first: compare your setup with Meta’s Steam Link requirements before buying a demanding PCVR game. Those are platform setup recommendations, not performance promises for a particular title.
