The game’s online services closed on August 22, 2023, so online multiplayer and community features are no longer available.
What still works
Turn 10 says owners can continue to download and access the game’s single-player portions after the online shutdown. That applies to the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S versions through backward compatibility. Turn 10’s closure announcement explains what remains playable.
- Single-player: Play the available solo content with a valid copy of the game.
- Existing digital copy: If you already own it digitally, Turn 10 says you can still download and access its single-player portions.
- Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S: Turn 10 lists these consoles as supporting the single-player game through backward compatibility.
What no longer works
Turn 10 shut down online services for every version named in its announcement—Xbox 360, Xbox One, and the standalone Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious—on August 22, 2023.
- Online matchmaking, including races, game modes, free roam, and car meets
- Online leaderboards
- Browsing, downloading, or sharing user-created liveries, vinyls, tuning setups, and photos
Buying a disc does not restore those services. The shutdown is separate from the Xbox 360 Store’s later closure: Microsoft stopped new purchases there on July 29, 2024, but says previously purchased games remain playable and downloadable. Microsoft also notes that Xbox 360 online multiplayer depends on publishers continuing to support the relevant game servers; Turn 10 had already closed Forza Horizon 2’s online services. How to get a copy now
Forza Horizon 2 was already delisted from the Microsoft Store by the time Turn 10 published its June 23, 2023 notice, so a new digital purchase from that store is not an option. If you do not have a digital license, a used Xbox One disc may be a route to the game, provided you have a disc-drive console.

- Check that the listing is specifically for the Xbox One edition.
- Confirm the disc is in usable condition and ask the seller about region compatibility.
- Make sure your console has a disc drive; a Series S cannot play the disc.
Used-disc availability and prices vary by seller and location. Whichever copy you use, the game’s discontinued online features remain unavailable.
