You can finish the battle without attacking by choosing DEFEND through the encounter, but that is a nonviolent completion—not sparing him.
Why you can’t SPARE the King
Most eligible enemies can be spared after their MERCY reaches 100%. The game’s official gameplay reminder explains that general rule, but also cautions that bosses may not be defeatable through violence—or nonviolently. For the King specifically, an independent Chapter 1 walkthrough reports that he cannot be made SPARE-able. Raising MERCY does not unlock the usual SPARE option for him.

How to finish the King battle without attacking
- When the King battle begins, choose DEFEND for the party instead of FIGHT or damaging spells.
- Continue defending through the encounter until the battle ends.
The defend-through strategy comes from the King-specific walkthrough; it is not a special SPARE route. Defending avoids attacking, but it does not turn the King’s name yellow or make SPARE available. The walkthrough supports this method, but does not establish a turn count, so there is no reliable exact number of turns to give.
What “spare” means here
SPARE is a battle command for enemies who meet its requirements. Finishing without attacking describes how you play the fight. Those are different outcomes: you can avoid violence against the King, but you cannot spare him through the normal Mercy mechanic.

Platforms and availability
As of June 24, 2026, the official help page lists the full game for PC, Mac, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5, and says there is no physical version yet. Platform and physical-release availability can change, so check the official help page for current details.
