An Xbox 360 can still connect to the internet, and some games can still be played online—but multiplayer depends on whether each game’s publisher continues to run its servers. The Xbox 360 Store is a separate matter: it stopped accepting new purchases on July 29, 2024.
What still works on Xbox 360?
Xbox’s August 17, 2023 announcement said players could keep playing purchased games and use multiplayer with friends as long as the publisher still supported the game’s online servers. The store closure was not a console-wide shutdown of multiplayer.

Online status is therefore title-specific. A console connecting to the internet—or signing in—does not prove that a particular game’s multiplayer service is still available. Xbox’s announcement does not provide a current, comprehensive list of surviving game servers, so check the game with its publisher or a current player community.
What changed on July 29, 2024?

These are different services: the end of new store purchases did not, by itself, end multiplayer for every game.

How to tell whether a specific game still works online
- Identify the exact game. Server availability can differ from one title to another.
- Check the publisher’s current support information. Look for an announcement about that game’s online services or server closure.
- Check a current community for recent confirmation. Recent player reports can help clarify whether multiplayer is active, but they are not a guarantee of future availability.
Do not assume a game is online just because the console can connect, or offline just because the Xbox 360 Store has closed.

An Ethernet cable can help connect the console to a router, but it cannot reopen the store or restore servers that a publisher has shut down.
