To play together, both players need to use compatible versions on the same platform family; matching game versions alone will not make Switch-to-PC play possible.
Which versions of Stardew Valley can play together?
The multiplayer reference says cross-platform multiplayer is unsupported except between PC versions. Windows and macOS players can play together, but a Switch player cannot join a PC player’s farm. The game’s official FAQ lists PC, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch among its platforms, but availability on both platforms does not mean they share multiplayer.

What can you do instead?
Use compatible PC versions
If one player uses Windows and the other macOS, the multiplayer reference says PC versions can play together. Make sure both players meet the game’s multiplayer requirements, including using the same game version.

Both play on Nintendo Switch
For remote multiplayer between Switch players, each player needs Nintendo Switch Online. Players who are physically nearby can use local communications play without that subscription. These are Switch multiplayer options; neither connects Switch to PC.

Move to one platform family
If the PC player is willing to play on Switch, both players can use the Switch edition. Nintendo’s listing describes Switch multiplayer for 1–4 players. Buying the Switch edition does not enable a Switch player to join someone using the PC edition.

Could matching versions or changing co-op settings fix it?
No. The official troubleshooting guide says everyone in a multiplayer session must use the same game version. That is a requirement for supported multiplayer, not a workaround for the platform restriction.
For a supported session, the guide recommends starting the hosted save through the Co-op menu and ensuring the farm has enough cabins for the players joining. Those setup steps cannot create Switch-to-PC compatibility.
