Will a Japanese PS5 game work on a US console?
Yes. In its PS5: The Ultimate FAQ, Sony Interactive Entertainment answers “No” to the question “Are PS5 games region-locked?” That means the game’s Japanese origin does not, by itself, prevent it from playing on an American PS5.

Do not confuse PS5 game compatibility with region restrictions for video discs. Sony’s CFI-1115A PS5 Safety Guide lists compatible game-disc formats and separately describes region codes for Blu-ray, DVD, and PS4-format media. Those video-disc codes do not mean PS5 games are region-locked.
What to check before buying a Japanese game
1. Confirm that your PS5 can read the disc
A Japanese physical copy requires a PS5 with a disc drive. If you have a Digital Edition, check the exact model to see whether it supports a compatible add-on disc drive; not every digital console can use one. A digital purchase is a separate matter because PlayStation Store content and services vary by country or region.

2. Check the languages for that exact edition
Japanese release does not mean Japanese-only, but it also does not guarantee English. Sony says available game languages vary by title. Check the packaging or the official listing for the specific game and edition before purchasing.
3. Match add-ons to the disc’s licensed region
A game can launch while its downloadable add-on does not work with the disc. For a disc game, PlayStation says the add-on region must match the country or region for which the disc is licensed. Check the box’s small print or ask the retailer which region the disc is licensed for before buying DLC.

4. Check voucher codes and account region
Voucher codes must match the country or region of the PlayStation account that redeems them. PlayStation also says an account’s country or region cannot be changed after the account is created. Confirm compatibility before buying a code rather than relying on a region change later.

No special Japanese console is required just because a PS5 game is Japanese. Sony does offer a Japan-specific PS5 Digital Edition, released November 21, 2025, that supports Japanese console language and Japanese-region accounts. That is a distinct hardware variant, not a requirement for playing Japanese games on a US PS5. Sony notes that the in-game language options on that model still vary by title; see its support page for the Japanese-language-only PS5 Digital Edition.

- You are free to pick your fights against the Kami in any order. The game features a dynamic difficulty system where each enemy strength is defined by the player’s chosen path. This means that the very same Kami fought at the very beginning could also be the final boss in a different route. Hope to never leave the one you struggle most to fight last!

Sometimes their remarks will be useful information that builds the player’s understanding of the lore and the game mechanics, but sometimes they will be... not so helpful, to put it briefly.
