Yes. You can play Animal Crossing: New Horizons on Nintendo Switch Lite. Nintendo confirms the game is compatible with Switch Lite, and the console’s built-in controls are all you need for ordinary handheld play.
How it works on Switch Lite
Switch Lite is a handheld-only console, and Nintendo says it plays Switch games that support handheld mode. Animal Crossing: New Horizons is one of those games: Nintendo’s Switch Lite product page lists the game, and Nintendo Support’s game-specific answer confirms it can be played on Switch Lite.
The game runs on the Lite’s own screen. Switch Lite does not support TV mode, so you cannot connect it to a television to play.
Do you need extra controllers?
Solo handheld play
No. The Lite has built-in controls, so you can play on your own without buying or pairing another controller.

Same-island party play
If multiple players want to play together on the same island using one Switch Lite, Nintendo says to connect Joy-Con or Nintendo Switch Pro Controllers for the players. The Lite can use compatible controllers wirelessly; see Nintendo’s play mode and accessory compatibility FAQ for details.
