Sludgemaw is at the bottom of Watershed Gate in the Fadefields, north of Idolator’s Noose. To reach the boss, progress through the main mission Rush the Gate, then complete Null and Void and its follow-up All Charged Up. The reported drops include Birt’s Bees, Kickballer, and Onion, but no reviewed source gives a current drop rate or guarantees an item on each kill.
Where to find Sludgemaw
Look for Sludgemaw at the bottom of Watershed Gate, in the Fadefields, north of Idolator’s Noose. Mobalytics’ Sludgemaw guide places the boss north of Idolator’s Noose; PC Gamer’s location guide specifies the bottom of Watershed Gate.

How to unlock the fight and repeat attempts
- Complete the Rush the Gate main mission.
- Speak with Rush south of The Launchpad to start Null and Void, then finish it.
- Accept and complete All Charged Up from Rhodes. Sludgemaw is the mission’s final encounter.
- After completing All Charged Up, use Moxxi’s Big Encore machine for repeat attempts against the boss.
This mission sequence and repeat-farm unlock are described by PC Gamer; Mobalytics also identifies Sludgemaw as the end encounter in All Charged Up.
Reported Sludgemaw loot drops
Mobalytics lists these items in its Sludgemaw drop table. PC Gamer independently identifies Birt’s Bees and Kickballer as dedicated drops.

The item descriptions and Onion listing come from Mobalytics. These are reported drops, not a guarantee that one will appear on every kill. Neither Mobalytics nor PC Gamer states a current exact drop probability, and the consulted guides do not verify whether every listed entry is unchanged after later patches.
How to handle Sludgemaw’s attacks
- Burrowing and resurfacing: Watch the ground while Sludgemaw is underground and dodge as it resurfaces beneath you.
- Frontal tentacle swipe: The wide melee attack is easiest to avoid by backing out of its path rather than staying directly in front of the boss.
- Grub summons: Sludgemaw can summon small grubs; Mobalytics notes that they may provide an opportunity to trigger Second Wind.
- Damage type: Mobalytics describes Sludgemaw’s health as flesh and recommends incendiary damage. PC Gamer also recommends fire or radiation weapons against the boss’s flesh defenses.
PC Gamer reported that Sludgemaw frequently burrowed and sometimes appeared stuck underground in the author’s September 2025 guide. Treat that as a reported encounter observation, not a confirmed current bug.

Weekly Encore and Weekly Wildcard are different
Borderlands Support’s Weekly Update Notes, published April 13, 2026 and updated April 21, listed Sludgemaw as the Weekly Big Encore Boss for the April 16 update. That is a dated rotation entry, not confirmation of the active boss on October 8, 2026.
The same official page says Weekly Wildcard missions have a guaranteed Legendary drop that can be earned repeatedly to pursue an ideal roll. That guarantee applies to the Weekly Wildcard mission system, not to every Sludgemaw kill. For the April 16, 2026 update, the listed Weekly Wildcard was Rush the Gate, with an Anarchy Tediore Shotgun reward.
