Yes, some players can solo ordinary Group Dungeons in The Elder Scrolls Online, but they are designed for four players and soloing is not guaranteed. Your character’s capabilities and the dungeon’s mechanics matter, and Veteran difficulty is substantially harder. ESO also announced dedicated solo modes for Moonhunter Keep and March of Sacrifices in Update 51 PTS notes; the official notes cited here document PTS testing, not confirmed live availability as of October 8, 2026.
First, make sure you mean a Group Dungeon
ESO uses “dungeon” for different kinds of content. Delves are intended for solo play or a small group. Group Dungeons are instanced for a specific party and designed around a full group of four, with bosses intended to test that party, according to ESO Support.
That group design is not the same as a universal solo lockout. ESO Support explains the intended party size and challenge, but does not publish a list of which Group Dungeons or bosses a solo player can clear. Some players may be able to complete them alone; results depend on character readiness and the encounter.
Normal and Veteran Group Dungeons are different challenges
Before deciding whether a solo attempt is realistic, check the difficulty. ESO Support says Veteran Group Dungeons unlock at character level 50 and are much more difficult than their Normal counterparts. A character that can manage a Normal run alone should not assume the Veteran version will be similarly manageable.

Update 50’s Challenge Difficulty system does not change Group Dungeon difficulty: the official ESO game updates listing describes it as applying to overland encounters, story instances, delves, and public dungeons, while excluding Dungeons.
Update 51 PTS described dedicated solo modes for two dungeons
ZeniMax’s August 2026 Update 51 PTS notes introduced solo modes for Moonhunter Keep and March of Sacrifices. The notes say players can enter from the map or the dungeons’ zone entrances, and experience the story “with or without an NPC companion.” That is a separate solo option, rather than a promise that every Group Dungeon has been converted to solo content.

The notes describe an optional challenge setting called Meted Misfortunes. The listed tiers are qualitative developer comparisons, not measured performance statistics:
| Meted Misfortunes | PTS-described challenge |
|---|---|
| 0 | Comparable to overland difficulty |
| 1 | Comparable to a normal solo arena |
| 2 | Comparable to a Veteran solo arena |
| 3 | Harder than comparable solo experiences |
The PTS notes also list in-game rewards, including Undaunted Crests, new item sets, and Style Pages. They do not establish a need to buy physical gear or other products to access the mode.

Are those solo modes live yet?
The official material cited here confirms testing on the Public Test Server, not a live release. The August v12.1.2 notes describe the feature on PTS, and the September v12.1.4 PTS notes discuss continued fixes and final adjustments ahead of the Update 51 launch. Those notes do not confirm whether the modes reached live servers before October 8, 2026. Check the current live patch notes or in-game map before planning to enter them.

There is no official universal soloability list or source-backed class ranking. For an individual attempt, consider whether your character can stay alive, deal enough damage, recover health, and handle that boss’s mechanics without the support of a group. These are practical readiness checks, not a guarantee of success.

- Identify the content: a delve is designed for solo or small-group play; a Group Dungeon is built around four players.
- Check the difficulty: Normal and Veteran are not interchangeable, and Veteran is substantially harder.
- Account for the encounter: a build that handles one boss may not handle another’s mechanics.
- Verify availability: treat the two Update 51 solo modes as PTS-described until live release is confirmed for your platform.
