Amon’s Vengeance skill tree can make heavy ordnance feel exceptionally powerful by combining damage support with ways to sustain ammunition. It is a build direction—not proof that Amon is universally overpowered: the available guides and creator claims are not controlled comparisons across current game modes. The route also tends to become more attractive later in progression, when its key skills and a strong heavy weapon are available.
What Ordnance means for Amon
Ordnance is a shared equipment slot for grenades and heavy weapons such as rocket launchers. PlayStation describes it as recharging on a cooldown, so it is a distinct resource rather than simply another ordinary gun slot. PlayStation Blog’s Borderlands 4 feature explains the mechanic.

Amon is presented as a resilient frontliner with mechanically complex Action Skills. His Vengeance tree is the route most directly associated with heavy-ordnance builds: PC Gamer notes that the tree supports ordnance-focused play and that heavy ordnance weapons benefit from weapon buffs. That makes the concept straightforward: invest in effects that improve damage, then build around keeping the heavy weapon supplied.
Why investing in Vengeance can pay off
Damage support for heavy weapons
PC Gamer’s Heavy Weapons Warrior example uses Vengeance skills and names Scourge as one possible Action Skill. It recommends heavy ordnance such as Bottled Lightning or Ootka, alongside damage support from skills and status effects. The guide’s central logic is synergy: status effects and damage buffs can help turn heavy-weapon attacks into the build’s payoff. These are the guide author’s recommendations, not results of an independent benchmark.
#1 Best Overall
Ammo support is part of the build, not a guarantee
The same guide describes ammo restoration associated with Primal Surge and a class-mod interaction involving Endless Bombardment as ways to support ordnance ammo. That matters because a heavy-weapon setup depends on resource support; the slot’s cooldown and ammunition interactions do not mean heavy fire is unlimited by default. Check current in-game descriptions before committing skill points or gear to a specific interaction.
When the build comes online
Expect the ordnance-focused version to develop later than a flexible early-game setup. PlayBorderlands says the build comes online later, as players gain access to the blue tree and obtain a strong heavy weapon. Its early progression advice is more permissive: any heavy weapon can fill the ordnance slot, a dedicated heavy weapon is not necessary until around the level 30s, and status-applying guns can work with early nodes. Replace under-level gear as you progress.

- Out-of-This-World Adventure – Stranded on a lunar space station, Hugh encounters Diana, a mysterious android resembling a young girl. While searching for a way back to Earth, they fight to survive against Bots directed to “neutralize” intruders.
- Hack & Shoot – Use each character’s distinct abilities to take down enemies. In combat, Diana can hack foes to expose weaknesses so Hugh can blast them with weapons. This unique fusion of gameplay offers an action-packed experience like no other.
- Space Exploration – Teamwork also extends to traversing the station. Utilize the thrusters in Hugh’s futuristic suit to dash and hover around while Diana hacks security systems to solve puzzles. Only together can they overcome all obstacles.
- Collect and Customize – Gather materials while exploring the station to unlock upgrades, build out a diverse arsenal of weapons, obtain new outfits, and more. Once you’re ready, use the new gear in battle and take on even greater challenges!

How it differs from other Amon approaches
| Consideration | Vengeance ordnance route | Other Amon approaches |
|---|---|---|
| Play pattern | Emphasizes heavy-weapon firing and supporting its damage. | Other tree descriptions emphasize close-range melee, Forge weapons and Forgeskills. |
| Resources | Uses ammo-restoration and cooldown interactions to support ordnance use; those synergies are not automatic or unlimited. | Not characterized by the cited ordnance guide as relying on its heavy-ordnance ammo loop. |
| Progression and gear | More compelling later, with access to relevant skills and a strong heavy weapon; early heavy-weapon choices can be flexible. | The cited material does not establish a directly comparable progression threshold. |
| Evidence of relative power | No controlled, same-version comparison establishes a tier or damage advantage. | No controlled, same-version comparison against ordnance was available. |
Choose this route if the heavy-weapon resource loop and firing style appeal to you, rather than because a universal ranking has been established. The available material does not support DPS figures, clear-time comparisons or a claim that this beats every alternative.

What “ridiculously overpowered” does—and doesn’t—establish
A creator video published October 15, 2025 is titled “MOST OP ORDNANCE AMON Build in Borderlands 4 (One-Shots UVH5),” and its description claims the build can work through UVH5. That is evidence of community enthusiasm and a creator’s performance claim, not a controlled benchmark or a guarantee for every player, build state or mode.
Balance details can change. Borderlands Support’s January 29, 2026 notes include Amon-specific fixes, including Dragon’s Breath functioning properly with beam Ripper Heavy Weapons. For current play, consult the official Borderlands 4 patch notes and the skill descriptions in your game version; a past guide or video may not reflect later adjustments.
