Gameplay footage identified as Crysis Next appeared online, but the available reporting describes it as a rudimentary multiplayer build—not a finished look at a released game. The project was reported to be a free-to-play battle royale set in the Crysis universe. Its cancellation has not been confirmed by Crytek, and neither an exact end date nor a reason for cancellation is established.
What was Crysis Next reportedly meant to be?
In an August 28, 2024 report, Insider Gaming described Crysis Next as a developing, free-to-play battle-royale shooter in the Crysis universe, focused on multiplayer and played from a third-person perspective. Those details are secondary reporting, not a public Crytek specification. Insider Gaming’s account also cautioned that some claims about intended gameplay were conjecture.

What did the leaked gameplay reportedly show?
Insider Gaming characterized the video as footage of a rudimentary multiplayer build. Its account mentioned nanosuit customization and three proposed roles—Frontliner, Tactician, and Flanker—but did not establish that every described feature was final or officially confirmed. The footage is evidence that a build existed; it is not enough to treat all reported mechanics as a definitive design.
There had been earlier reporting, too: on March 10, 2021, TheSixthAxis reported leaked footage associated with “Crysis Battleground” and the name Crysis Next, saying it was reportedly sourced from materials leaked in November 2020. TheSixthAxis report and the later Insider Gaming coverage describe separate points in the public reporting history; neither is a Crytek announcement.

Was Crysis Next canceled?
Insider Gaming’s 2024 report said the project was assumed to have been quietly canceled, while acknowledging that the timing was unknown. The available official Crytek announcement does not confirm that claim. The careful answer is that cancellation was reported as an assumption, not publicly confirmed by Crytek in the sources cited here.
When and why did the project end?
No exact cancellation date or supported reason is established in the reporting cited here. Crytek’s announcement of another new Crysis game in 2022 does not establish that Crysis Next ended then, or explain why it might have ended.

Is Crysis Next the same game Crytek announced in 2022?
Crytek CEO Avni Yerli announced on January 26, 2022, that a new Crysis game was in early development. The announcement did not name Crysis Next, and the sources cited here do not establish whether the two projects were related. Yerli wrote, “Right now the game is in the early stages of development so it will be a while yet, but we wanted to bring you the news at this time so we can start building up the hype!” Crytek’s announcement refers to the game discussed in that post, not specifically to Crysis Next.
Did Crytek take the footage down?
The sources cited here do not establish that Crytek issued a takedown or provide primary evidence of a specific removal action. A headline suggesting the footage was “shut down” is not, by itself, confirmation of what happened to the video.
