Baldur’s Gate 3’s Patch 7 mod platform has reportedly passed 500 million downloads. That later milestone comes from GamesRadar’s August 5, 2026 report of Larian’s anniversary statistics; Larian’s directly sourced early figure was more than 15 million downloads, not millions of distinct players installing mods.
How many Baldur’s Gate 3 mods have been downloaded?
There are two useful milestones, with different sourcing and dates. Larian Studios said on October 1, 2024, that players had uploaded more than 1,000 mods and recorded over 15 million downloads in less than a month after Patch 7 launched on PC. Those are downloads, not unique mods installed, individual installations, or a player count. Larian’s Community Update #29 put it this way: “It’s not even a month since Patch 7 dropped on PC – complete with our official modding toolkit – and already you’ve uploaded over 1,000 mods and racked up more than 15 million downloads!”

A later figure, reported by GamesRadar on August 5, 2026, puts the platform at 500 million mod downloads and 13,000 mods uploaded. That is secondary reporting of Larian figures, rather than a figure independently confirmed here from an official Larian post. It should not be conflated with separate, broader coverage using a one-billion headline: the reported 500 million refers to downloads on the internal mod platform.

Neither milestone establishes how many different people used mods. Downloads can include repeat downloads, so they should not be described as a count of players or unique installations.

What Patch 7 added for mods
In-game Mod Manager
Patch 7 introduced an in-game Mod Manager for browsing and installing mods. Larian described this as a new way to mod Baldur’s Gate 3 saves in its Official Mod Support FAQ.
Separate Toolkit for creators
The Toolkit is a separate free Steam application for PC mod creators, not a requirement for players installing ordinary mods through the in-game manager. Larian’s support guidance says the Toolkit is PC-only. Its stated requirements—64-bit PC environment and 160 GB of available space, with a recommended configuration including Windows 10 64-bit and 32 GB RAM—apply to the Toolkit, not to every player who installs an in-game mod. Can you use Patch 7 mods on console or Mac?
Official mod support rolled out to Mac and console starting October 1, 2024, after the PC launch. But that does not mean every PC mod is available on those platforms. Larian’s October 2024 guidance says mods must be made and uploaded with the BG3 Toolkit and pass internal checks to be eligible for release in the console and Mac in-game browser. Technical limitations can also keep some PC mods off those platforms.

- Multiplayer: Everyone in a session needs the same mods at the same versions. Larian’s in-game verification window can offer actions such as downloading, enabling, updating, or downgrading mods to match a save or session.
- Existing saves: Disabling some mods can affect a save that already uses them. Consider the save’s mod requirements before changing its setup.
- Troubleshooting: Larian recommends disabling mods to see whether a problem persists. On PC, reinstalling the game may not remove all files from third-party mods.
