Baldur’s Gate 3 cross-play is no longer in testing. Larian began rolling out Patch 8 on April 15, 2025, bringing multiplayer across PC, Mac, Xbox, and PlayStation 5. To play together, link each player’s platform account to a Larian Account, enable cross-play in the game, then create or join a lobby through the Larian Network.
Is Baldur’s Gate 3 cross-play out yet?
Yes. Larian’s Patch 8 announcement on April 15, 2025 marked cross-play as a released feature, superseding the earlier stress-test phase. Larian said players on PC, Mac, Xbox, and PlayStation 5 could play multiplayer together, with cross-platform progression as well. Larian’s Patch 8 announcement has the release details.
The earlier testing announcements are now historical context, not instructions for access. Larian’s February 26, 2025 update said it had fixed an issue that had affected cross-play testing; it does not establish the state of current matchmaking or indicate a current bug. Which platforms can play together?
Larian names PC, Mac, Xbox, and PlayStation 5 as supported cross-play platforms. The practical check is that each friend owns the game on one of those platforms, has linked the relevant account to a Larian Account, and can join a compatible game version.

Larian’s release statement also describes full cross-platform progression. Separately, its account FAQ explains that Cross-Save syncs copies of saves through the Larian Account service; the service details are distinct from the multiplayer lobby setup.
How to enable cross-play in BG3
- Link accounts: Each player connects their platform account to a Larian Account.
- Turn on the setting: In Baldur’s Gate 3, open Options, select the Gameplay tab, and check Allow Cross-Play.
- Create or join a lobby: Open Multiplayer to create or join a cross-play lobby. Use the Larian Network to find and invite friends.

Do cross-play players need the same mods?
Yes. Everyone in a modded lobby needs matching mod versions. If a PC host is playing with console or Mac users, Larian advises choosing mods marked Available on Console & Mac. Larian says console mod limits are 100 and third-party mods cannot be used on consoles. Check that the full set is supported and version-matched before inviting the group.

Larian’s account FAQ says that, with Cross-Save enabled, its service syncs copies of the last 10 saves for up to six months. The six-month retention rule applies to the copies stored in the Larian Account service: saves older than that are deleted from the account copy, while local PC or console saves are unaffected.

The FAQ separately gave September 29, 2026 as the expiry date for inactive cross-save copies older than six months. That is a dated cloud-copy retention notice, not a deadline for local saves. See Larian Account Information for the service policy.
If a cross-play lobby will not work
Confirm that everyone has linked their platform account, enabled Allow Cross-Play, and is joining through the Larian Network. For modded sessions, compare the mod list and versions and check platform compatibility. Larian’s support hub listed Hotfix #36 at the time of the latest available status information here, but a hotfix listing does not confirm real-time service health or prove every platform is on the same game version.
For a current error, consult Larian’s Baldur’s Gate 3 Support rather than assuming the issue is a general outage or a still-open test limitation.
