There is no verified, current all-purpose “best weapon” ranking for LOCKDOWN Protocol. The practical choice depends on the encounter: weigh range, accuracy, recoil, ammunition and access for ranged weapons; for close-range options, consider stamina cost, attack timing, knockback and the risk of a missed attack. Those are useful comparison factors—not results from controlled weapon tests.
Why the best weapon depends on the situation
LOCKDOWN Protocol is a first-person social-deduction game for up to 16 players. Most players work together on timed tasks while a smaller group of dissidents tries to stop them, so a weapon’s value depends on what you need to do and when you can use it. Steam’s game listing describes that core setup.
Weapon balance has changed across updates, and the available official notes do not provide a complete set of current, comparable weapon statistics. Treat any fixed tier list as potentially out of date unless it has been checked against the current build.
How to compare weapons before choosing
- Access: Factor in where a weapon appears and what it takes to reach it. A powerful option is not useful if you cannot obtain or ready it in time.
- Range and accuracy: Consider whether you need a precise first shot or sustained fire, and whether recoil makes follow-up shots harder. The 0.15.0 update notes describe changes to pistol and revolver accuracy and recoil, but do not establish a current head-to-head ranking.
- Ammunition and readiness: Check how much ammunition is available and whether a weapon needs to be charged or otherwise prepared. Do not assume a weapon is ready just because you found it.
- Stamina and commitment: For melee, weigh the stamina cost against attack timing and knockback. For firearms, stamina can matter too: update 1.4.3 increased the SMG’s stamina cost per shot.
- Room to escape or plan: The developers described the 0.15.0 balance goal as leaving “more space for the social aspect, while still rewarding good execution of assassination plans under the right opportunities :”. That is stated intent, not a guarantee that a particular weapon ensures an escape or a successful attack.
What the documented updates tell us about specific weapons
Rifle: powerful access requirements, not an instant pickup
In the 0.15.0 update, dated 23 September 2025, the heavy-weapon crate had a 50% chance to appear. After opening its room, players needed an access card; the crate could contain only the rifle, which always spawned empty and could not be hidden in a bag. These are version-specific rules from that update, not confirmation of how the crate works in the current build. If you are relying on the rifle, verify its availability and readiness in-game before planning around it. Read the 0.15.0 update notes.

Pistol, revolver and Shorty: weigh handling, not just damage
The same 0.15.0 notes say ranged-weapon changes affected the pistol, revolver and Shorty’s damage, recoil, accuracy and knockback. They do not provide enough current, comparable data to name a winner among them. Choose by the handling you need in the moment, and check the current game build rather than treating older damage claims as settled.
SMG: account for stamina per shot
Update 1.4.3, dated 13 May 2026, increased the SMG’s stamina cost per shot. That change is a clear example of why older weapon recommendations can become stale. See the game’s Steam news feed for update notes.

Melee weapons: a missed attack can be costly
In 0.15.0, the developers increased stamina costs for most melee weapons and increased knockback on most melee hits. The update also made the knife slower to attack and described its kill as requiring execution and planning. This favors judging melee options by whether you can time an attack and manage its cost—not by assuming close range makes a weapon an easy choice. These details describe that update and should not be read as a complete current stat sheet.
Finding a weapon: check access in the current build
Players have asked where weapon cases are and how to open them, and the Steam Community hub lists a player guide titled “Complete Weapon & Item Overview for LOCKDOWN Protocol: Spawn Rates & Locations.” Those listings show that finding and accessing weapons is a common concern; they do not verify the guide’s spawn-rate tables or establish that its details match the current version. Browse the Steam Community guides, and cross-check specific locations or requirements in-game.

What cannot be ranked reliably
The available official notes document dated balance changes, but they do not establish a current, complete comparison of weapon damage, spawn rates or overall effectiveness. No independently published weapon-stat comparison or controlled performance results are established here. Avoid relying on exact damage or spawn-rate tables from community sources as current facts unless they have been verified in the current build; a guide’s presence on Steam does not validate its numbers.
