It is not a universal winner: Lunar Items trade unusual benefits for significant drawbacks, so the right choice depends on your build, what the run needs, and how much risk you can tolerate. In co-op, also check whether an effect can harm or impair teammates.

- Benefit: How large is the effect, and how long does it last?
- Drawback: How severe is the cost, and how often might it affect you?
- Build fit: Does the effect support your survivor and the needs of this run?
- Team risk: Could the item affect allies or everyone nearby?
- Opportunity cost: Is this effect worth the Lunar Coins you spend to get it?
The Risk of Rain 2 Wiki describes Lunar Items as a tier with powerful abilities and considerable drawbacks; its page result lists 20 Lunar Items and four Lunar Equipment. Spinel Tonic: a strong temporary boost
Spinel Tonic is a high-impact option when you want a substantial temporary increase in combat power and can make good use of its effect window. The listed in-game effect is +100% damage, +70% attack speed, and +20 armor for 20 seconds; its listed cooldown is 60 seconds. Consider whether the boost fits the encounter or run you are preparing for and whether its temporary nature suits your plan. If you need a lasting effect rather than a timed power spike, the listed boost alone does not make Tonic an automatic pick.
Brittle Crown: gold on hit, gold at risk
Brittle Crown illustrates the tradeoff behind Lunar Items: it can grant gold when you hit enemies, but you lose gold when you take damage. In co-op, account for shared effects
Some Lunar Equipment can impair or damage more than the player who activates it. Check the effect before using one near teammates:
- Effigy of Grief: Slows all characters and reduces their armor by 20.
- Glowing Meteorite: Damages all characters.
- Helfire Tincture: Ignites all characters within range.

Where Lunar Items come from, and what coins cost you

Is there a definitive Lunar Item tier list?
No single ranking can account for every survivor, build, run situation, co-op setup, patch, and DLC configuration. Treat Spinel Tonic as a legible high-impact conditional pick, not an unconditional top item. For other passives, judge the specific effect and drawback against your current needs rather than assuming a fixed tier list applies to your run.
