There is no verified, universally best N7 Shadow build for Platinum in Mass Effect 3. Community advice points to two viable priorities: invest in melee damage and use Shadow Strike when an opening is safe, or prioritize weapons and treat Shadow Strike mainly as a way to reposition, escape, or recover shields. Choose based on how much close-range risk you want to take; neither approach has established results across all teams, maps, or enemy factions.
Choose your damage priority
The N7 Shadow is a Mass Effect 3 multiplayer character. The available build advice comes from player discussion, not an official recommended Platinum loadout. Community players describe both melee-forward and weapon-oriented approaches, but there is no verified comparative statistic showing that one wins or clears more often.

Melee-forward: commit when the opening is safe
This approach invests in melee damage and uses Shadow Strike as an important attack. It suits players comfortable reading enemy positions and timing close-range engagements. The trade-off is exposure: Shadow Strike can be interrupted or punished, so treating every possible strike as free damage can put the character in danger.
Weapon-oriented: deal damage without relying on every strike
This approach puts more emphasis on weapon damage and uses Shadow Strike more selectively for mobility, escape, or shield recovery. It can suit players who prefer to spend less time committed to close-range attacks. Community discussion does not establish it as superior for every map, faction, or team composition.

Compare the approaches by their trade-offs
| Decision | Melee-forward | Weapon-oriented |
|---|---|---|
| Main damage priority | Melee damage, with Shadow Strike used when an opening is safe. | Weapon damage, with Shadow Strike used more selectively. |
| Positioning risk | More frequent close-range commitment; a poorly timed approach can be punished. | Less dependence on close-range attacks; Shadow Strike can help reposition or escape. |
| Weapon load and power cooldown | Weapon weight still matters: heavier weapons slow power cooldown. | Weapon choice still matters: heavier weapons slow power cooldown, which can affect power frequency. |
| Best fit | Players who want to capitalize on safe melee openings and accept greater positional risk. | Players who prefer weapons as their main damage source and want to limit close-range commitment. |
The cooldown trade-off comes from EA’s Mass Effect 3 PC manual, which explains that weapon weight slows power cooldown. That is a general multiplayer mechanic, not evidence that either Shadow approach performs better on Platinum.
Account for the whole match, not only damage
EA’s manual describes multiplayer as successive enemy waves, followed by an extraction wave, with timed objectives on waves 3, 6, and 10. Those demands make survival, positioning, and objective completion part of the build decision alongside damage. A setup that feels strong against one target still needs to leave you able to move, respond to objectives, and survive the rest of the match.

The manual documents Bronze, Silver, and Gold settings, but does not cover Platinum by name. Its mechanics are useful context for weapon weight and match structure; they are not a Platinum balance guide.

The available sources do not establish an agreed rank-by-rank Platinum skill allocation, named best weapon or mod, or measured success rate for either approach. A precise point spread would therefore imply more certainty than the evidence supports. Treat the two priorities as decision frameworks, then make choices in the game’s character and weapon customization around your preferred balance of close-range risk, weapon damage, and power cooldown.
