There is no single officially established “best gun” in Battlefield REDSEC. Battle Royale starts you with a sidearm, then asks you to scavenge for a primary; weapon rarity, attachments, range, and your preferred handling all affect what works. The most useful approach is to choose a sidearm for the opening fight, then judge primary weapons by the situation and their configuration—not by an unsupported universal tier list.
How weapons work in REDSEC Battle Royale
REDSEC Battle Royale uses a different loadout flow from other official Battlefield experiences. Before dropping, you choose a Class, Sidearm, and Melee Tool; primary weapons are generally found during the match. Weapon containers and drops can provide weapons, ammunition, gadgets, and throwables, with contents varying by container type. See EA’s Battlefield REDSEC – Battle Royale 101 and REDSEC New Player Guide.
That distinction matters when asking what weapon to use: your starting sidearm needs to help you reach a primary weapon, while your scavenged primary will usually define how you take later engagements. EA’s New Player Guide puts it plainly: “Your starting weapon only carries you far enough to secure a Primary Weapon, found in crates around the map.”
Which starting sidearm should you choose?
EA’s Battle Royale 101 describes sidearm roles and lists unlock routes at Season 1 launch. Those descriptions are not a controlled comparison or a current ranked tier list. Unlock availability can change, so check the in-game menu for the current requirement in your region and season.

| Sidearm | EA-described role | Unlock listed in EA’s guide |
|---|---|---|
| P18 | Versatile balance of damage, fire rate, and magazine capacity. | Default |
| ES 5.7 | Rapid fire, generous capacity, and high bullet velocity among sidearms; described as especially useful up close. | Career Rank 24 |
| M45A1 | More powerful, controlled semi-automatic option, offset by low base capacity. | Career Rank 39 |
| M44 | Strong ranged potential and substantial damage, balanced by limited capacity and effective rate. | Career Rank 48 |
| GGH-22 | Balanced damage and fire rate, described for short-to-mid-range use. | Season 1 Battle Pass Recruit Path, Tier 5 |
| M357 TRAIT | Eight-shot revolver with high damage and recoil; EA describes it as more forgiving than the M44. | Season 1 challenge |
| vz. 61 | Fully automatic machine pistol with low damage and controllable fire; attachments affect handling, capacity, or stealth. | Season 2 challenge |
Pick for the opening engagement
- Want a straightforward default? The P18 is EA’s general-purpose option, balancing three core traits.
- Expect close-range pressure? EA highlights the ES 5.7’s rapid fire and close-range usefulness, or the vz. 61’s automatic fire if it is unlocked and available.
- Prefer deliberate shots? The M45A1 is described as a controlled semi-automatic choice, while its low base capacity is a meaningful trade-off.
- Need more reach from a sidearm? EA specifically notes the M44’s ranged potential, but pairs it with limited capacity and effective rate.
These are role-based choices, not evidence that one sidearm wins more fights. Consider the encounter you expect and how comfortable you are managing recoil, firing cadence, and a limited magazine.
How to judge a scavenged primary weapon
Do not choose by weapon name alone. Compare the primary you find against the fight you are likely to take and the way its current attachments handle. EA’s guide says weapons gain attachment points with rarity and cautions that mileage varies by playstyle, especially for Unique weapons configured around individual preferences.

| Quality | Attachment points |
|---|---|
| Common | 25 |
| Uncommon | 30 |
| Rare | 60 |
| Advanced | 90 |
| Superior | 100 |
| Unique custom weapons | Varies |
These are the standard values EA publishes in its 2026 guide. More attachment points can expand a weapon’s configuration, but the number alone is not a performance ranking: the usefulness of a build depends on its attachments and your needs.
Use these checks before committing to a gun
- Engagement range: Is the weapon suited to the distances you expect to fight at?
- Damage and control: Can you keep shots on target at the pace you intend to fire?
- Capacity and fire rate: Does the magazine and firing cadence fit your tolerance for missed shots and reload timing?
- Handling: Where the weapon’s configuration supports it, weigh aim-down-sight speed and mobility against range or stability benefits.
- Class and proficiency: Factor in the class and any relevant weapon proficiency when comparing options.
- Quality and attachments: Check what the weapon actually has equipped; rarity is not a substitute for a configuration that suits the fight.
When should you use a Weapon Upgrade Kit?
EA says category-specific Weapon Upgrade Kits can upgrade eligible weapons below Advanced quality. Each kit offers two upgrade paths, and a benefit may come with a cost—for example, greater effective range at the expense of aim-down-sight speed. Kits can take a weapon as high as Advanced; EA describes Superior as a rarer quality above that kit-upgrade ceiling. Choose a path for the fights you want to take rather than treating one upgrade as universally optimal.

How do Custom Weapon Drops fit into a match?
Custom weapons are based on primary weapon configurations you have favorited in the loadout menu. EA describes Custom Weapon Drops as a way to acquire these weapons during a match, including through missions. You can also scavenge an enemy’s custom weapon. Each squad member can take one custom weapon from a drop. This is the route for bringing a preferred configuration into a match; ordinary primary weapons are generally scavenged instead.

EA’s October 1, 2026 outlook names the KTS100 Mk8, SCW-10, SVDM, SG553R, and KV9 in planned changes addressing the REDSEC meta. That announcement identifies weapons targeted for balance attention; it does not report the results of those changes, establish a ranking, or say which weapon is strongest afterward. For a current meta choice, check the applicable later patch notes and the weapon’s in-game state rather than treating the outlook as a post-change verdict: Battlefield 6/REDSEC: Looking Ahead To Season 5 And Beyond.

What is the best loadout in REDSEC?
Because Battle Royale separates the pre-drop sidearm choice from the primary weapon you scavenge, there is no single fixed loadout answer. Choose a sidearm that covers the opening, then adapt to the primary weapons and attachments you find. If you can take a Custom Weapon Drop, favor a configuration built around the ranges and handling you prefer. EA’s guide sums up the trade-off: “Outside of the ‘Unique Tier,’ which are weapons fit to your personal preferences, the mileage may vary on what weapons in each tier are considered the ‘best’ for your playstyle.”
