For a Spring 2025 Xbox shooter shortlist, start with Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 if you need Xbox One compatibility, or DOOM: The Dark Ages if you want a new, cinematic first-person shooter on Xbox Series X|S. The date matters: Black Ops 6 launched in October 2024, while DOOM arrived on May 15, 2025—near the end of spring under common Northern Hemisphere definitions.

These are preference-based recommendations, not a critic-tested ranking. The official sources establish their release dates, platforms and broad genre framing; they do not establish a universal “best” pick.

Choose by console and play preference
Pick Black Ops 6 for Xbox One support
Activision identifies Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 as a first-person shooter released October 25, 2024, developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, and lists both Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S among its platforms. That makes it the clearer fit if you are playing on an Xbox One. Activision’s game page lists Game Pass as an access route; because subscription eligibility can change, confirm the current terms before relying on it.
Pick DOOM for a new Series X|S release and franchise prequel
Xbox Wire’s January 23, 2025 Developer_Direct report described DOOM: The Dark Ages as a cinematic, epic first-person shooter and gave May 15, 2025 as its launch date. The game is set before DOOM (2016) and DOOM Eternal, and its story leads into DOOM (2016). The announcement lists Xbox Series X|S, Xbox App for Windows PC, Steam and PlayStation 5—not Xbox One—and said the game would be playable day one with Game Pass. How to read the Spring 2025 date and Game Pass listings
Spring is not a single global date range, and no regional convention is established here. What is clear is the launch timing: Black Ops 6 was already out before Spring 2025, whereas DOOM: The Dark Ages launched on May 15. It should not be described as playable throughout the whole season.
Subscription catalogs are snapshots, not permanent promises. Microsoft Store shooter and Game Pass catalog listings accessed in 2026 included titles such as Halo Infinite, Gears 5, Battlefield 2042 and DOOM: The Dark Ages; a Game Pass shooter listing at that time also showed Black Ops 6 and Halo Infinite as included. Those later listings do not prove which games or tiers were included in Spring 2025. Use the Xbox shooter catalog and the Xbox Game Pass catalog as live discovery tools, then verify availability for your account and region.
