What does “highest rated” mean here?
It most plausibly means a position in Metacritic’s user-score rankings, not the critic-review aggregate and not an award. A ranking claim needs a named measure and a dated chart snapshot: user scores can change as ratings arrive, and a score by itself does not establish a game’s position in a particular chart.

Is Cory in the House actually a better game?
A high user score does not, on its own, answer that question. Cory in the House is a 2008 Nintendo DS game whose renewed attention was reported in a meme context; Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a 2025 game with a separately reported critic aggregate and a large displayed user-rating sample on Metacritic. How to check the claim accurately
- Open the relevant Metacritic game pages and note the displayed critic score, user score, review or rating count, and platform or edition.
- Open the specific Metacritic chart being cited. Confirm that both games appear in that chart and compare their positions there, rather than inferring rank from scores on separate pages.
- Record the date you checked. Metacritic’s displayed ratings and rankings can change, so a later result may differ from a report published in 2026.
TechRadar’s report documents a 9.3 user score for Cory in the House in its 2026 article, while Metacritic’s retrieved Clair Obscur page showed a 9.5 user score alongside a 92 Metascore. The evidence supports a meme-fueled challenge to the ranking narrative, but not the unqualified claim that Cory is now Metacritic’s highest-rated game.
