No. Iris does not support Minecraft Forge and cannot be installed as a Forge mod. Iris supports Fabric for Minecraft 1.16.5 and later, and NeoForge for 1.21.1 and later, according to the official Iris FAQ. If you need to keep Forge, Oculus with Embeddium is a separate shader option for the Forge versions listed below—not a Forge build of Iris.
Which Minecraft loaders does Iris support?
Iris’s official FAQ lists Fabric on Minecraft 1.16.5 and higher, and NeoForge on 1.21.1 and higher. It explicitly says Forge is not supported. These are loader and minimum-version statements, not a guarantee that an Iris release exists for every Minecraft version; check the file listing for the exact game version you use.
For example, the Iris CurseForge listing showed Iris 1.11.7 releases for Fabric and NeoForge on Minecraft 26.3, dated September 30, 2026. That listing is a dated example of available files, not evidence that every version has both loader options.

How do you install Iris on a supported loader?
The official installer is the most direct route: download it from the Iris download page, select the Minecraft version, and let it install Iris and Sodium. For downloads from Modrinth or CurseForge, that page notes that Sodium is also needed.

The official installation guide documents standalone and Fabric-mod installations. For a Fabric mod setup, choose “Fabric install” in the Iris installer, then place other Fabric mods in the mods folder. For manual installation, put the Iris and Sodium files in that folder. The guide does not provide a Forge installation path for Iris.

No loader choice guarantees compatibility with every shader, device, or mod combination. The Iris FAQ notes that some shader packs may not support some devices and lists specific limitations:
- Nvidium disables itself when shaders are enabled.
- Voxy and Distant Horizons work only with some shader packs that explicitly support them.
- OptiFine, Canvas, and Vulkan mods are listed as incompatible with Iris.
Check the documentation and version requirements for the shader pack and other rendering mods alongside the Iris file for your Minecraft version.
