You can unlink a Steam account from an EA Account through EA Account settings or, for Steam, through the game’s sign-in flow. But unlinking does not move progress or entitlements to another EA Account, and EA warns that you may permanently lose access to content and rewards. Review the consequences before confirming.
Before you unlink: what can be lost
EA says game progress will not transfer if you link the platform account to another EA Account. Unlinking may permanently remove access to progress, DLC and expansions, other extra content, memberships and subscriptions, previous drops and rewards, and in-game purchases. The exact effects can depend on the game and account.
For Steam, rewards, points, and items remain on the EA Account that the Steam account was first linked to. EA says players cannot move their games or personas to another account themselves. Contact EA support if you want to ask about merging accounts, but EA does not guarantee that a merge or transfer will be possible. EA’s unlinking guidance explains these limits.
Game-specific risks
- EA SPORTS FC: If the platform account you use for the game is still the active account in the Web or Companion App when you unlink, you will lose access to those apps. EA says switching the active account first can greatly reduce the risk, but it does not eliminate it.
- Apex Legends: Unlinking a platform account used to play Apex Legends may cause Battle Pass leveling, item unlock, and other errors.
Unlink through EA Account settings
- Sign in to the EA Account settings portal.
- Open Connected Accounts and find Steam.
- Select Unlink. EA may ask you to verify your identity.
- Read EA’s warning carefully. Confirm only if you accept the risks described above.
If Unlink is greyed out, EA says your account is not eligible to relink. Do not assume that removing the connection will let you attach Steam to the EA Account you want.

Unlink Steam through the game
EA also documents an in-game route for Steam. The exact screen wording may vary by game, but its published flow is:
- Start the game and choose Use another account, then Continue.
- For Steam, choose Unlink and Create New and confirm the unlink.
- Enter the login details for the EA Account you want to connect.
If you know the previous EA Account’s login details and want to recover that account instead, EA says to choose Recover my account. See EA’s account-linking instructions for the Steam flow and recovery option.

Can I link Steam to a different EA Account?
EA says linked accounts can be switched up to three times in a rolling year. That limit does not mean every account can be relinked: eligibility is account-specific, and a greyed-out Unlink control means relinking is not available for that account. EA’s unlinking troubleshooting guide covers the switch limit and related issues.
Before switching, consider whether you need the original EA Account for its progress or Steam-linked rewards, points, items, games, or personas. Those do not simply follow Steam to a different EA Account.

If the unlink option is unavailable
- Check Connected Accounts in EA Account settings to confirm the Steam connection and whether Unlink is available.
- If the button is greyed out, treat that as an eligibility restriction rather than a temporary confirmation step.
- For a persistent issue or an account you cannot access, use EA’s current unlinking troubleshooting and support route. Do not unlink another account on the assumption that EA can restore or transfer its content.
EA’s official instructions were accessed on October 8, 2026, and the support pages stated they had been updated about one month earlier.
