Overwolf says its official apps will not get you banned, but the game publisher’s rules decide which third-party apps are allowed. That means an app’s presence in Overwolf’s Appstore is not a blanket guarantee that every feature is permitted in every game. Before using one, check the app’s source and the current policy for the game it supports.
What Overwolf says about bans
Overwolf’s support page, modified November 27, 2025, states: “Overwolf and all official Overwolf apps will NOT get you banned.” The company says it works with publishers to align official Appstore apps with their terms, third-party policies and fair-play guidelines, and recommends downloading apps from its official Appstore: Overwolf’s ban-policy FAQ.
This is Overwolf’s assurance about its platform and official apps, not a universal approval from every game publisher. Overwolf also describes its review process as manually testing apps and working with publishers on compliance (Overwolf’s terms and policies). Those statements explain its safeguards, but they do not establish that every app is permitted in every game or that policies will never change.
Why the game’s rules matter
The publisher of the game you play sets the rules for third-party software. Riot, for example, says it objects to apps that undermine competitive play or violate its terms. Its examples include revealing intentionally hidden information, taking actions for a player, drawing conclusions during gameplay, or altering player information. Riot says apps approved and built using its official API should rarely cause an issue, but unauthorized apps that interact with a game in a nefarious way can flag an account. Scripting and botting can lead to suspensions; consistent, blatant use can result in a permanent suspension. Riot’s Terms of Service also prohibit unauthorized programs that interact with Riot Services, including mods, hacks, cheats, scripts, bots, trainers and automation programs. Riot reserves the right to discipline violations, and its terms can change.
How to assess an Overwolf app before using it
- Confirm where you got it. Download the app from the official Overwolf Appstore, as Overwolf recommends. Do not assume an app found elsewhere receives the same review or assurance.
- Check the specific game’s current policy. Look for guidance from that game’s publisher, and match it to the app and game you intend to use. Riot says it cannot provide a complete list of safe third-party applications, so an app’s absence from a list is not proof of approval.
- Review what the app actually does. Be especially cautious if it reads hidden game information, changes game data, takes actions for you, automates play, or gives a real-time competitive advantage. Those behaviors are among the concerns Riot identifies.
- Recheck when the app or policy changes. Publisher rules can change, and an app’s features may change between versions. If you cannot establish that the specific app and feature are permitted for your game, the lower-risk choice is not to use it.
What Overwolf’s assurance does—and does not—cover
Overwolf’s developer terms allow the platform to reject or remove apps, suspend them, or limit their visibility if they violate its terms or policies or create an adverse impact (Overwolf’s terms and policies). That is action Overwolf can take against an app or its developer; it is separate from a publisher’s ability to take action against a player’s game account.

The reviewed guidance does not establish a ban probability, a complete safe-app list, or approval status for every app-and-game pairing. In particular, Riot’s examples describe Riot’s rules; they should not be treated as a policy statement for unrelated games. For a specific case, verify the current publisher guidance for that game and the exact app version and features.
