Roblox says names must comply with its rules and that consequences for content violations can range from warnings and content removal to account-level restrictions. The outcome depends on the violation and the account’s history.
What happens if Roblox moderates your name?
Roblox says it uses automated systems and moderators to identify potential violations. Its content moderation guidance describes actions ranging from warnings and content removal to account-level restrictions, depending on a violation’s severity and impact. Roblox also considers a user’s history, and repeated violations may lead to more severe consequences.
That is a range of possible outcomes, not a guaranteed sequence for every name case. Roblox does not say that every unsuitable name automatically results in a full account ban, nor publish a reliable statistic for how often names lead to bans.
- Display-name reset: A display name that does not comply may be reset to the account’s username.
- Action on a name or related content: Roblox may remove content or take another action consistent with its moderation rules.
- Account-level restriction: More serious or repeated violations can result in restrictions affecting the account.
Can Roblox ban you for your display name?
Roblox says display names must follow its Community Rules and Terms of Use or they may be reset to the username. A reset is a possible moderation outcome; it does not by itself mean the account has been banned.

A display name is the customizable name shown to other players. It is free to change in account settings, can be shared by multiple users, and can be changed once every seven days, according to Roblox Support.
What about your Roblox username?
A username is the unique identifier for an account, unlike a display name that multiple players can share. Roblox says username text is filtered and governed by its rules. Changing a username requires Robux, and other players may be able to find past usernames through People search; see Roblox’s username guidance.

The Roblox Terms of Use also restrict creators from using “Roblox,” “Blox,” or similar names in usernames, display names, community names, or experience titles. The terms state an exception for certain names associated with experiences published before June 22, 2022. This specific restriction should not be read as proof that every ordinary name containing a similar word automatically results in the same penalty.

What name rules does Roblox publish?
Roblox says all text, including usernames and display names, is continuously filtered against its Community Standards. Roblox’s Xbox Error 901 troubleshooting page gives signup-name constraints in that Xbox troubleshooting context: a username should be 3–20 characters, use alphanumeric characters, allow no more than one underscore (not at the beginning or end), avoid inappropriate words or phrases, and avoid personally identifying information such as names, phone numbers, street names, or addresses. These are the constraints stated on that page, not an exhaustive statement of every current username rule for every platform.

Use the appeal route shown in the moderation notice. Roblox directs users to Violations & Appeals when the violation category is available there; otherwise, the Support Form may be the appropriate route. The notice should guide you to the applicable process.

- Open the moderation notification and follow its appeal instructions.
- For an account appeal, provide the account username and a brief, factual explanation of why you believe the decision should be reviewed.
- Submit within the deadline stated for your case. Roblox’s appeal guidance generally gives 30 days for an account appeal. EU users have up to six months to appeal an initial moderation action.
Only the account owner may file an account appeal. Roblox says it will not review duplicate appeals after a decision has been reviewed, and filing an appeal does not guarantee the moderation action will be reversed.
