Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsYes—if you’re playing the PC/Steam version or the Nintendo Switch 2 edition, both of which officially list a high-speed feature. The options are edition-specific, though: the available official information does not confirm the same feature set or controls for every older port.
Which versions have a speed-up feature?
| Edition | What the official listing confirms | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| PC (Steam) | The Steam listing advertises five boosters, including high speed and no encounters. | The listing reviewed does not give the activation controls. |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | Nintendo’s listing advertises high-speed mode, no random encounters, and other quality-of-life features. Square Enix also describes game-speed changes, character strengthening, and encounter-rate changes on its 25th-anniversary page. | The pages reviewed do not provide button-by-button activation instructions. |
| Original Nintendo Switch | Square Enix lists this edition among the supported platforms. | The support list is not a feature comparison, and the Switch 2 claims should not be assumed to apply to the original Switch edition. |
| PlayStation 4 / PS5 compatibility | The PlayStation listing identifies the PS4 version and says it is playable on PS5. | That listing does not advertise a speed mode. It also notes that some PS4 features may be absent when played on PS5. |
| PlayStation Vita, PlayStation 3, Windows | Square Enix’s supported-platform page names these platforms, along with PS4, Switch, and Switch 2. | Platform support alone does not confirm high-speed mode or identical boosters across ports. |
How do you turn speed-up on?
The official product pages establish that high-speed features exist on Steam and Switch 2, but the information reviewed does not specify a keyboard key, controller button, or menu path. Check the manual or in-game controls for your exact edition rather than following button instructions for another platform.

What if your version is not listed?
Do not assume that a speed-up option on one edition is present in another. Square Enix’s platform-support page confirms that the remaster is available on several systems, but it does not document feature parity. For older ports and the original Switch edition, confirm the feature in that edition’s own manual or controls menu.
Does speed-up also change encounters?
On Steam, the listing groups high speed with a no-encounters booster. On Switch 2, Nintendo lists no random encounters, while Square Enix describes encounter-rate changes. The official wording does not specify a speed multiplier, duration, or percentage for either edition.
