Yes—Pokémon Sword still has a working Mystery Gift feature, but that does not mean a new gift or an old code is available now. Nintendo documents the internet, local communication, and code/password options; each only works when a gift is currently offered by that method or you have a valid code. The official information available as of October 8, 2026, does not confirm an active Sword-specific distribution.
What Mystery Gift can still do
Nintendo continues to document Mystery Gift for Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. The menu lets you search for gifts over the internet, look for nearby gifts using local communication, or redeem a download code. The internet and code options require an internet connection. A search only returns gifts available through that route; the feature remaining in the game is not evidence that a new distribution is active. Nintendo Support’s instructions describe the feature and its redemption methods.
The official sources cited here do not verify a currently active Sword-specific internet gift or an unexpired Sword code as of October 8, 2026. That does not establish that no offer could be announced later; check Pokémon Support’s distribution-event guidance and official Pokémon announcements for updates. Pokémon Support says distribution events are announced at pokemon.com when information becomes available, and it cannot confirm unannounced events or possible re-releases.
How to redeem a code in Pokémon Sword
Mystery Gift becomes available after you battle the mysterious Pokémon in Slumbering Weald and speak to your mother. Once it is unlocked, redeem a code as follows:

- Catch, battle, and trade Pokémon on an all-new adventure in the Galar region
- Choose from three new partner Pokémon and encounter never-before-seen Pokémon
- Unravel the mystery behind the Legendary Pokémon Zacian and Zamazenta!
- Team up with other Trainers to participate in Max Raid Battles***!
- Battle wild Dynamax Pokémon in Max Raid Battles and try catching them***
- Press X to open the menu, then select Mystery Gift.
- Select Get a Mystery Gift, then choose Get with Code/Password.
- Enter the code and wait for the gift to arrive.
- Save your game after receiving it.
These steps are documented by Nintendo Support and Pokémon Support. Pokémon or other non-fashion rewards go to your party or Boxes, or to your Bag, as applicable. Redeemed fashion items can be accessed in the fitting room at any in-game boutique.
Which receiving option should you choose?
| Option | What it does | What you need |
|---|---|---|
| Get via Internet | Searches online for gifts currently available. | An internet connection and a live distribution for Pokémon Sword. |
| Get via Local Communication | Searches for gifts available nearby. | A nearby local gift distribution. Nintendo notes the search continues until you cancel it if no gift is found. |
| Get with Code/Password | Redeems a code you received. | A valid code accepted by the game’s redemption service and an internet connection. |
Nintendo documents all three methods in its Mystery Gift instructions. Do not assume an old code still works: its validity depends on the code and its redemption period, and the official sources cited here do not provide a current catalog of active Sword codes.
Rank #2
- New entries in the main series of Pokémon RPGs arrive on Nintendo Switch simultaneously in late 2019
- The Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield games take place in the newly discovered Galar Region
- Galar is an expansive region with diverse environments - an idyllic countryside, contemporary cities, thick forest and craggy, snow-covered mountains
- Fans will have the opportunity to visit Gyms in the Galar region in their quest to become Champion
- Newly discovered partner Pokémon join in this new iteration of the games - Grookey, Scorbunny and Sobble
Pokémon HOME has a separate Sword and Shield reward
There is also a Hidden Ability Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble reward associated with transferring Pokémon between Sword or Shield and the Nintendo Switch version of Pokémon HOME. It is claimed in the mobile Pokémon HOME app—not from Sword’s Mystery Gift menu. The Switch and mobile HOME apps must be linked to the same Nintendo Account. The official Sword and Shield announcement describes the reward, while Pokémon Support directs players to the mobile app’s Gift Box in the Mystery Gifts section.
Pokémon Support says this reward is given once per HOME account. If you already claimed the Pokémon and later lost them, the guidance does not promise another claim.
