In The Sims 4, EA’s Recover Save feature can return a manual save to an earlier point in your gameplay, but it does not reinstall an older game update. EA’s guidance cited here explains how to recover saves, back up files, and troubleshoot mods; it does not establish an official, all-platform procedure for downgrading the installed game version.
First, decide what you mean by “undo”

How to recover an earlier manual save
EA’s recovery flow lets you choose from recent save points associated with a manual save slot. Start from the main menu:
- Select Load Game.
- Choose the manual save slot you want to recover.
- Select Recover Save, shown with a floppy disk icon.
- Choose the save point you want, then load it.
This changes the gameplay state you load. It does not remove a patch or replace the installed game files. Before choosing an older point, consider what progress you may lose between that point and your latest play session.
Autosaves are different
EA says The Sims 4 has one Autosave slot, and each new Autosave replaces the previous one. EA’s guidance states: “Older Autosaves can’t be recovered.” If you want more than one retained point to return to, create manual saves rather than relying on Autosave alone. Back up your files before troubleshooting
Before resetting the game or trying troubleshooting steps, make a separate copy of your Sims 4 folder. EA’s backup instructions locate it in Documents/Electronic Arts; copy the folder and paste it somewhere else, such as your desktop. Keep the copy separate from the folder you are troubleshooting so you have a safeguard for your saves and other user files. EA Help: How to back up and reset your game in The Sims 4
A backup is file protection, not an update rollback. Copying the folder does not install an earlier version of The Sims 4.

If the update caused a mod or custom-content problem
EA warns that mods that worked before an update may cause problems afterward. Its guidance recommends checking with the mod creator about compatibility or whether a mod needs to be reinstalled, and testing the game with Mods disabled before re-enabling content. EA and Maxis do not pre-screen, endorse, or support specific Mods or Custom Content. EA Help: The Sims 4: Mods, game updates, and error codes
- Back up the Sims 4 folder before changing files or resetting the game.
- Launch with Mods disabled and check whether the issue still occurs.
- If the game works without Mods, check each relevant creator’s compatibility information and update or remove affected content as appropriate.
- Re-enable content cautiously, testing as you go. Include your game version when asking a creator or other support community about a problem.
Version numbers depend on platform and date
Version labels are not identical across platforms. EA’s update notes dated September 22, 2026 list PC 1.128.90.1030, Mac 1.128.90.1230, and console 2.39. Those are the labels in that dated announcement, not a claim that they remain the latest versions indefinitely.
