No. In both the 2014 and 2024 Dungeons & Dragons 5e rules, you can’t add your proficiency bonus twice to the same roll just because more than one skill or feature applies. Expertise doubles the bonus only when a rule specifically grants it. If you gain a proficiency you already have, check the wording of the option that grants it to see whether you can choose a replacement.
What happens when two proficiencies apply to one roll?
You add your proficiency bonus no more than once to a roll. The 2024 Basic Rules make this explicit with an example: if a Charisma check can use either Deception or Persuasion, proficiency in both skills still doesn’t let you add the bonus twice. The 2014 Basic Rules state the general rule: the proficiency bonus can’t be added to a single die roll or other number more than once.

Proficiency lets you add the bonus to qualifying ability checks that use the skill. It doesn’t create a second bonus when another proficiency or rule also qualifies for the same roll.
Does getting proficiency twice give you Expertise?
No. Expertise is a separate benefit granted by a specific rule. Under the 2024 rules, it doubles the proficiency bonus for designated ability checks; the official 5.1 System Reference Document describes the Bard’s Expertise as doubling the bonus for checks using chosen proficiencies. Merely gaining ordinary proficiency from another source does not grant Expertise.

What if a feature gives you a skill proficiency you already have?
The no-stacking rule settles how much proficiency bonus you add to a roll, but it doesn’t by itself determine what happens to a duplicate proficiency when you gain one. Read the specific class, background, species, feat, or other option that grants it, using the rules version your table follows. Follow that option’s duplicate-proficiency instruction if it has one; don’t assume every option provides the same replacement choice.
Which 5e rules should you use?
Use the rules version your group is playing. The 2014 and 2024 Basic Rules reach the same answer on stacking, though the 2024 text spells out the case of two qualifying skills more directly. For a particular duplicate-granting option, its own wording is needed to determine whether you can select a different proficiency.
