If Cairn is crashing on PS5, update the game and console first, then check the installation and test a fresh save before reinstalling. The Game Bakers’ March 24, 2026 update added PS5 Performance mode and many bug fixes, but it did not say that every crash was solved. These steps follow PlayStation’s published troubleshooting guidance.
Update Cairn and PS5 system software
- On the PS5 home screen, highlight Cairn, press the Options button, and choose Check for Update. Install any available update before testing again.
- Install any available PS5 system software update through the console’s system software update settings.
The Game Bakers’ March 24, 2026 quality-of-life update added a PS5 Performance mode that prioritizes framerate and included many bug fixes. The announcement does not identify a specific PS5 crash fix or guarantee that crashes are resolved for all players.

Check the installation and save
Confirm the game finished installing
If you have the digital version, make sure its download and installation completed. An incomplete installation can interfere with launching or playing a game.
Test a new game without risking your existing save
Start from the beginning without loading your existing save. If the new game runs while the old one crashes, the save may be corrupted. Back up important data before taking any step that could delete it; a fresh-save test is diagnostic, not proof of the cause.

Reinstall if Cairn still crashes
If updating, checking the installation, and testing a fresh save do not help, delete and reinstall Cairn. Reinstallation is one of the steps in PlayStation’s game-freeze and crash guidance. Avoid a factory reset as an early fix: PlayStation places reset after other troubleshooting and warns that it erases data stored on the console.
Know what the Photo Mode report means
A community post dated February 5, 2026 reproduced patch text attributed to version 1.0.311 describing a PS5 Photo Mode regression that could crash the game and asking players to avoid Photo Mode temporarily. The post also reproduced crash-fix notes, while commenters reported that crashes continued. This is historical, mixed evidence—not confirmation of the current build’s status or a universal workaround. If Photo Mode seems connected to your crash, note that detail when reporting the issue, but do not assume avoiding it will solve every crash. Read the community post.

Contact the right support team
- Only Cairn crashes: Contact The Game Bakers, the publisher and developer, with your PS5 model, what you were doing when the crash occurred, steps that reproduce it, and a screenshot or video if available.
- Several games crash: Follow PlayStation’s console repair guidance; an issue across multiple games may point to the console rather than Cairn alone.
PlayStation’s official Cairn listing identifies it as a PS5 game and lists Standard and Deluxe digital editions. It does not establish a physical disc edition, and PlayStation’s crash guidance does not suggest buying a controller, component, or repair tool as a fix.
