No—not for live Pokémon GO gameplay. Niantic lists GPS and Location Services as requirements for supported iOS and Android devices. Strong Wi-Fi or cellular service cannot make up for a device with no GPS hardware. If GPS is present but turned off or inaccurate, check permissions and troubleshoot the location signal instead.
What “without GPS” can mean
The answer depends on the problem. A device may lack GPS hardware, the game may not have permission to access location, or the device may be reporting an inaccurate location. Only the latter two are settings or signal issues; neither can add GPS hardware to a device that lacks it.

Can Pokémon GO run on a device with no GPS?
Niantic’s supported-device requirements list GPS and Location Services for both iOS and Android. A Wi-Fi or cellular connection is also needed, but network access is not a replacement for GPS. Niantic notes that a strong Wi-Fi or cellular signal alone may not ensure a stable connection.
Wi-Fi-only tablets are a common edge case: Niantic says many tablets, including some without built-in data connectivity, do not have GPS sensors. Even a device that appears to meet the listed requirements is not guaranteed to work. Check the operating-system and connectivity requirements as well as GPS.

Fix location access or inaccurate readings
If location permission is off
Open your phone’s system settings, find Pokémon GO’s app permissions, and allow Location. Niantic provides permission instructions for Android and iOS. Menu names can vary by operating-system version; use the wording shown on your device. Niantic recommends enabling Location for the full gameplay experience.
If the location drifts or the game cannot detect it
Niantic’s GPS troubleshooting guidance recommends confirming that the device is supported and the connection is usable, then trying Wi-Fi instead of cellular or vice versa. Tall buildings can make GPS readings drift or jump in urban areas.

On Android, turn on Improve Location Accuracy, which lets the device use inputs beyond GPS to determine location. If the game reports “failed to detect location,” Niantic also advises checking that Select mock location app is disabled in Developer options. These steps may help with a present but unreliable location signal; they cannot make unsupported hardware work, and they do not guarantee a fix in every device or environment.
Adventure Sync does not enable GPS-free live play
Adventure Sync can record distance while Pokémon GO is closed, helping with Buddy Candy and Egg hatching. It is available from Trainer Level 5 and requires always-enabled location permission and a connection to Apple Health or Google Fit. It is not a way to play on the live map without GPS.

Niantic’s Adventure Sync troubleshooting notes that the feature relies on device sensors and correctly connected fitness data. Manually entered fitness data does not count, battery-saving modes may interfere, and distance syncing can take several hours.
Why GPS spoofing is not a workaround
Niantic defines falsifying location, including GPS spoofing, as cheating under its Gameplay Fairness Policy. The policy describes escalating consequences under a three-strike framework, potentially including account termination for continuing violations. Niantic’s terms guidance also identifies location falsification, emulators, and modified or unofficial software as conduct that may lead to account action. Use the supported permission and troubleshooting steps instead.

What to do if your device has no GPS
Use a supported phone with built-in GPS and Location Services if your current device lacks GPS hardware. Before switching devices, check Niantic’s current supported-device requirements for the operating system and connectivity too. Niantic does not guarantee that every device meeting its listed criteria will work, and its guidance does not establish an external accessory or app as a supported way to play without GPS.
