Possibly, but it is not guaranteed. Steam’s standard refund offer for games and software covers purchases made within 14 days and with less than two hours of playtime. Once you exceed two hours, you are outside that standard condition—but Steam says you can still submit a request for review.
What happens if you have played more than two hours?
Steam’s standard rule for games and software applications has two conditions: the purchase must be within 14 days, and playtime must be less than two hours. Both conditions apply. Exceeding two hours means your request falls outside the standard offer, even if you bought the game recently.
That does not prevent you from asking. Steam’s policy says: “Even if you fall outside of the refund rules we’ve described, you can ask for a refund anyway and we’ll take a look.” This means Steam will review an out-of-rule request; it does not promise an exception or say how likely approval is.
How to submit a request
- Go to Steam Support and sign in to the account that made the purchase.
- Choose the relevant purchase in the support flow and select the refund or purchase-assistance option presented for it.
- Submit an accurate explanation of why you are requesting a refund. No particular wording guarantees approval.
If Steam approves the request, it says the refund will be issued within a week. Depending on what the original payment method supports, the refund goes to that method or to your Steam Wallet. If Steam cannot refund the original method, it credits the Wallet instead. These terms and the standard game rule are described on Steam’s refund policy page.

The two-hour game rule is not a universal refund rule for every Steam purchase. Check the category that matches what you bought:

Two other details to check
- VAC bans: Steam says a player banned by Valve Anti-Cheat loses the right to refund that game.
- Local consumer rights: Steam notes that customers in some jurisdictions may have additional rights when a game is faulty. The applicable rights depend on where you live; the standard Steam policy is not a complete statement of consumer law.
