Skyrim on Xbox now has 15 GB of storage for Creations, following Bethesda Game Studios’ August 20, 2026 update. If that space is full, delete Creations you no longer want; buying an external drive is not documented as increasing Skyrim’s per-game allowance.
How much Skyrim mod storage does Xbox have?
Bethesda’s August 20, 2026 update notes say, “Increased mod storage to 15 GB for both PlayStation 5 and Xbox.” That is the current stated allowance.
Bethesda Support’s older “Not enough storage memory” support page still refers to a 5 GB limit. That figure conflicts with the later update, so it should not be treated as the current Xbox allowance.
Does an external drive give Skyrim more mod space?
Bethesda’s guidance describes a game-specific Creation allowance and freeing room by removing Creations. It does not say that expanding general Xbox storage or using an external drive increases Skyrim’s 15 GB allowance.

How to make room without removing everything
- Open Skyrim and go to the Creations menu.
- Open your Library and find a Creation you no longer want installed.
- Select it and choose Delete.
- Repeat as needed, then try installing the Creation you want.
Bethesda says that when you meet or exceed the storage limit, you must remove existing Creations before installing more. Deleting selected items lets you keep the others installed.
When to clear Skyrim’s Reserved Space
If Skyrim cannot load or its installed Creations are stuck, Bethesda recommends clearing the game’s Reserved Space. This removes all installed mods, so expect to restore or reinstall the Creations you want afterward.

- On the Xbox dashboard, open My Games and Apps.
- Highlight Skyrim, press the Menu button, and choose Manage Game.
- Open Saved Data, select Reserved Space, and choose Clear reserved space.
- Power cycle the Xbox and try again if the reserved space does not clear.
Bethesda also advises against downloading too many Creations at once, noting that downloading more than 10+ is at risk. Treat this as Bethesda Support’s troubleshooting guidance, not a universal technical threshold.

The 15 GB allowance is separate from the number of Creations you can have active. Bethesda Support lists an Xbox cap of 150 active Creations. Disabling items can make room for another configuration; the disabled items remain in your Library. Reaching the active-item cap and filling the storage allowance are different problems.
