Oblivion Remastered pairs a highly adjustable face editor with refreshed character models, and that combination can make character creation feel like a project: players share both long slider sessions and triumphant “finally, that looks right” results. Bethesda even jokes about the “horrifying monsters” players create. That is a playful nod to the outcomes—not proof that the creator is broken or that every unusual face is a bug.
Why does character creation take so long?
There is no published average session time or representative player survey. The “2 hours later in character creation” phrasing found in a player discussion is an anecdote, not a typical duration. Other discussion titles celebrate a “nearly perfect” creator, while comments praise its sliders and also ask for clearer controls or more options. Those reactions show different player priorities, not a consensus verdict. Player discussions in r/oblivion and r/TESVI are individual examples.
The practical tension is easy to understand: if you want a particular face, you may keep adjusting features until they work together; if you are still learning what each control changes, trial and error can stretch the session. Players discussing the creator focus on slider clarity, the range of face options, time spent getting a preferred result, and whether appearance can be changed later. Those are reported preferences, not measured shortcomings.
What changed in the remaster’s character presentation?
Bethesda’s April 22, 2025 overview says the remaster uses Unreal Engine 5 to enhance visuals and performance. It describes more detailed character models, new character base meshes, improved lip synchronization, redone locomotion and an overhauled third-person perspective. Bethesda says the new meshes and lip-sync technology make dialogue more expressive, including for Khajiits and Argonians.

That official description is about presentation and animation; it does not provide a complete inventory of face-creator controls or establish that every character will look better to every player. It does, however, explain why faces and expressions are part of the remaster’s visible refresh. Bethesda’s own overview also acknowledges the comic side of character-making: “And if you love looking at the beautiful characters you create (or the horrifying monsters – we’ve seen your videos) third-person perspective has been overhauled as well.” The line is the studio’s editorial voice, not a quotation attributed to a named individual.
How can I make a good-looking character?
There is no single slider recipe established by the sources, and what counts as “good-looking” is subjective. The player discussions offer examples of people sharing slider recipes and taking pride in a successful face, but they do not establish a universally reliable sequence or settings. If you are experimenting, treat the editor as a series of small adjustments: change a feature, inspect the result, and keep the version you prefer rather than expecting one preset to suit everyone.

If the result looks strange, that alone does not show that the editor is malfunctioning. Bethesda’s joke about “horrifying monsters” recognizes that players sometimes produce intentionally or unintentionally comic faces; it is not a diagnosis of a bug.

Unusual face proportions and a character-height or camera problem are not the same issue. Bethesda Support documented cases involving races appearing the same height and characters becoming too tall in first person—sometimes unable to fit through spaces after being paralyzed. Its support page says an update on June 11, 2025 resolved several player-height and first-person-view issues. For lingering symptoms, Bethesda recommends troubleshooting steps; these are suggestions, not guaranteed fixes.

For a camera that remains too high, Bethesda’s guidance is to exit and reopen the game. If that does not help, it advises switching to third person, making a new save, closing and reopening the game, loading that save manually, then returning to first person. See Bethesda Support’s camera guidance.
For a character who is still too tall to fit through spaces, Bethesda separately recommends updating the game, restarting, checking for PC mods, removing active effects and equipment, swimming fully underwater, then saving and reloading while switching perspectives. Follow the full Bethesda Support troubleshooting guidance; the suggested steps do not promise a fix.
