Chess.com’s CrunchLabs partnership tied its 2024 Champions Chess Tour event to two fan activations: a limited-time Mark Rober-inspired chess bot and a discount on CrunchLabs subscriptions. The tournament ran July 17–24, 2024; the announced discount was for the first 500 Chess.com members, so neither the offer nor the bot’s current availability should be assumed today.
What was the CrunchLabs Masters?
Chess.com announced the CrunchLabs Masters as the third event of the 2024 Champions Chess Tour. Scheduled for July 17–24, it carried a $300,000 prize pool and a place in the CCT Finals at stake, according to Chess.com’s July 15, 2024 announcement. The official 2024 event rulebook also lists those dates.
The tour’s 2024 format included online qualifying and event stages such as play-ins, division placement, and division play, with event performance offering a route to the in-person finals. Those are details of the 2024 tour, not a guide to later seasons.
What did CrunchLabs and Mark Rober contribute?
CrunchLabs was the event partner. Chess.com described it in 2024 as an educational STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) subscription-box company founded by Mark Rober, a former NASA engineer and YouTube creator. The partnership connected the tournament to online chess and to CrunchLabs’ physical subscription products.

What was the Mark Rober bot?
The announcement introduced a Mark Rober-inspired bot on Chess.com and invited members to play it for a limited time. Chess.com has a profile page for mark-rober-bot that displays a July 8, 2024 join date. A profile and join date do not establish that the bot remains playable now; the sources do not confirm its current availability.
What was the CrunchLabs discount?
Chess.com said the first 500 members could get $32 off annual Build Box and Hack Pack subscriptions. That was a limited offer announced in 2024, not a current discount. The announcement does not establish whether it was replaced by another promotion.

What is still unknown?
- Whether the Mark Rober bot is currently playable.
- Whether a CrunchLabs discount is available now.
- Whether Build Box and Hack Pack still have the names, contents, and age ranges described in 2024.
- Whether CrunchLabs has an affiliate program. Chess.com’s general partner information, updated January 31, 2024, describes possible Chess.com sponsorship and promotion formats, but it does not confirm the details of the CrunchLabs arrangement or an affiliate relationship.
