To beat Grosse Tête in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, focus on surviving its bounce attacks—not dealing damage. The encounter guide says the boss destroys itself after a sequence that reaches 24 bounces. Watch for the start of each fall, then dodge or parry around halfway to the ground; dodging is the more forgiving option according to a second guide.
How the Grosse Tête fight works
Grosse Tête’s attacks build into a longer bounce sequence. The Expedition 33 Wiki guide, reviewed September 23, 2026, says the sequence begins at two bounces and adds two with each attack, ending when the boss reaches 24 bounces and self-destructs. It describes the encounter as surviving 12 attacks.
That makes this an endurance and timing fight. The guide lists no elemental weakness or resistances, and says raw damage is not the solution: you need to make it through the sequence.
When to dodge or parry
The bounce intervals vary, so do not rely on a fixed rhythm. Wait until Grosse Tête begins falling back down, then input your defense about halfway to the ground. The guide also points to the sound cue as a parry aid.

- Dodge: Millenium’s guide says dodging gives you a wider margin for error, making it the safer choice if your timing is inconsistent.
- Parry: Use the falling animation or sound cue to time the input. A successful parry can help with timing, but the fight does not require you to deal damage.
Where to find Grosse Tête
The guide lists two locations. Both are optional encounters:
- Coastal Cave: In front of the entrance on the Continent, on the orange-tree island east of the snowy island. Reaching the island requires Esquie’s swim ability.
- Flying Manor: Below the Dualliste area inside the manor.
The September 2026 guide says the encounters use the same strategy and have the same 24-bounce endpoint. An older Millenium article, dated April 28, 2025, reports about 24 bounces at Coastal Cave but says the Flying Manor version may take 28. The sources therefore disagree about the second encounter’s endpoint; treat 24 as the newer guide’s account rather than a guaranteed count for both fights.
