Press the PS button on your DualSense, select Accessories in the Control Centre, and check the controller’s battery icon. To stretch a charge, you can lower vibration, trigger effects, speaker volume, or indicator brightness—but Sony does not publish how much runtime any individual change saves.
How do I check my PS5 controller battery?
- Press the PS button on the DualSense to open the Control Centre.
- Select Accessories.
- Find the controller’s battery icon and read its bars.
The standard interface shows a battery icon rather than a precise numeric percentage. While the controller charges, the icon animates and displays a lightning symbol. When it is fully charged, the animation stops and the icon shows three bars. PlayStation Support explains the battery indicator and connection steps.
How can I make my PS5 controller battery last longer?
Try reducing features you do not need. On the PS5, open Settings > Accessories > Controller (General) and adjust the available options:
- Vibration Intensity: lower or turn off vibration.
- Trigger Effect Intensity: reduce or disable adaptive trigger effects.
- Volume (Speaker for Controller): turn down the built-in speaker.
- Brightness of Controller Indicators: lower the indicator brightness where the option is available.
These are settings to experiment with, not guaranteed runtime multipliers: PlayStation describes what they change but does not provide measured battery savings for each one. See PlayStation’s guide to general controller settings.

A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
When you finish playing, turn off the PS5 or put it into rest mode using the console’s power controls. PlayStation says the controller turns off when the console enters either state. Power-saving settings and behavior can vary by PS5 model.
How do I know if my DualSense is charging?
Connect the controller to the PS5 with the included USB cable. The battery icon in Control Centre > Accessories animates and shows a lightning symbol during charging; once fully charged, it stops animating and shows three bars.

If you need a replacement, use a cable that supports both charging and data—PlayStation calls this a “charge and sync” or “charging and data” cable. A charge-only cable cannot be used. A USB-standard charger may also work, but PlayStation cautions that not all USB chargers can charge a DualSense. See PlayStation’s DualSense connection and charging guidance.
Can I charge my PS5 controller in rest mode?
Yes. The DualSense can charge while the PS5 is on or in rest mode, provided the console supplies power to its USB ports. To check the setting, go to Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode, then configure Supply Power to USB Ports.

The available choices depend on the console model. PlayStation’s charging guidance lists Always and 3 Hours, and says Adaptive is available on CFI-2000 model-group consoles. Its power-settings guidance also identifies CFI-2000/7000 for Adaptive. Check the options shown on your own PS5 rather than assuming every model supports the same choices. Adaptive charging adjusts charging time to the controller’s remaining level; connect the controller before putting the console into rest mode. Sony says charge duration gradually decreases with repeated use and age, and varies with storage, use, and environment. The DualSense instruction manual recommends charging at 10 °C to 30 °C. If you will not use the controller for a long time, Sony recommends fully charging it at least once a year. These are care recommendations, not a promise of a particular battery capacity or playtime.
