You can find a Clam by foraging on the Beach in any season or catch one in a saltwater Crab Pot. Foraging is the simplest option: you do not need a pot, bait, or a fishing skill. Before selling or using one, consider whether you need it for the Crab Pot Bundle, Chowder, tailoring, or the ten-Clam Water Obelisk recipe.
Where to find Clams
Forage on The Beach
Look for Clams washed up along The Beach. They are available in every season, but the chance of a Clam appearing at a possible beach-forage location varies by season: the Stardew Valley Wiki lists 56% in Spring and Fall, 43% in Summer, and 24% in Winter. These are in-game spawn rates, not real-world statistics. Stardew Valley Wiki: The Beach

Most standard forage spawn locations are west of the broken bridge. The Wiki says 80% of possible standard forage locations are on that side, and only six standard forage items can be present at once. The east tide pools require repairing the bridge with 300 wood or buying the second Community upgrade, but Clams are not limited to the tide pools.
Use a Crab Pot in saltwater
Clams can also be caught in a Crab Pot placed in saltwater. This is a repeatable way to get one once you have a pot and bait; beach foraging needs no equipment but depends on a Clam having spawned. The available game references do not establish which route is faster or gives a higher yield, so choose based on what you have access to.

Less predictable sources
The Stardew Valley Wiki also lists occasional or conditional sources: a gift from a pet turtle at maximum friendship, the Traveling Cart for 150–1,000g, Pierre’s booth at the Feast of the Winter Star for 500g, or forage in Mines levels 1–29 when the Shrine of Challenge is enabled or Danger in the Deep is active. These are not as dependable as checking the Beach. Stardew Valley Wiki: Clam
What to do with a Clam
Crab Pot Bundle
A Clam is one accepted choice for the Crab Pot Bundle in the Fish Tank, not a uniquely required item. The bundle can also be completed with other listed crab-pot catches or beach-foraged Cockle, Mussel, and Oyster. Completing it rewards three Crab Pots. If you find a Clam on the Beach, you can contribute it without waiting for a pot catch. Stardew Valley Wiki: Bundles
Chowder
Cook one Clam with one Milk to make Chowder. The dish gives Fishing +1 for 16 minutes 47 seconds. Willy sends the recipe by mail after reaching three or more hearts with him.
Water Obelisk
The Water Obelisk requires ten Clams, five Iridium Bars, ten Coral, and 500,000g. It warps you to the Beach. Because this is a substantial later-game project, ordinary Clams need not be reserved for it early on unless you are deliberately saving toward the obelisk.

Tailoring and dye
Use a Clam at the Sewing Machine to make a dyeable Sailor Shirt. It can also be used as blue dye at the dye pots.
Fish Pond
Clams can live and reproduce in a Fish Pond, producing more Clams every two days. The pond starts with a capacity of three; three quests can raise it to ten. Ordinary output can include Clam Roe, Seaweed, and Trash, with more valuable outputs possible once the pond population reaches five.

The Clam item page also lists it as an option for recipes or crafting that accept any fish, including Maki Roll, Sashimi, and Quality Fertilizer. These uses only help if you have the relevant recipe or crafting recipe unlocked.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Should you keep or sell a Clam?
Keep one if you are working on the Crab Pot Bundle or want to make Chowder, tailor a Sailor Shirt, use blue dye, or start a Clam Fish Pond. If the Water Obelisk is a goal, plan to save ten. Otherwise, a Clam is not a one-of-a-kind progression item: it can be found on the Beach again or caught in a saltwater Crab Pot. The item page lists a base sell price of 50g; foraged Beach Clams and Crab Pot catches can have different quality values, so check the item’s displayed value before selling.

Is a Clam a fish?
In Stardew Valley, the item page classifies Clam as a fish caught by Crab Pot, even though it is also beach forage. A Clam caught in a Crab Pot cannot be eaten directly; use it in a compatible recipe or smoke it instead.
