There is no documented Roblox setting that lets players turn off the platform’s idle disconnect. Roblox commonly disconnects inactive players after about 20 minutes, though the timing can vary. For a regular player, the safest choices are to use the experience’s own AFK feature or return and interact manually; an AFK zone or private server alone does not guarantee you will stay connected.
What happens when you go AFK on Roblox?
AFK means leaving an experience open without actively providing input. Two separate systems may affect what happens next:
- Roblox’s idle disconnect: The platform can disconnect a client after a period without detected activity. Roblox’s public Player API documents an idle-detection event for developers, but no player setting to disable the disconnect.
- The experience’s own rules: A game can move idle players to an AFK area, pause rewards, remove them sooner, or provide its own server-transfer or rejoin system.
An AFK area may protect your avatar from other players, but it does not by itself prevent Roblox’s client-level idle disconnect.
How long can you stay idle?
Roblox commonly disconnects players after about 20 minutes of inactivity. Roblox developer-community discussions describe that as the usual idle-kick threshold, but it is a practical rule of thumb, not a guaranteed timer for every experience, platform, or client. What can players do safely?
Use the experience’s built-in AFK feature
- Read the game’s instructions or settings for an AFK button, AFK zone, passive mode, or automatic rejoin feature.
- Activate the feature before leaving the game.
- Check what it actually preserves: for example, whether rewards continue, your position or inventory is saved, and whether you remain in the same server.
- Check whether it works in public servers, private servers, or both.
A game’s AFK feature manages that experience’s systems; it is not proof that Roblox will keep an idle client connected indefinitely. Rewards and progress while AFK are also determined by the individual game.
Choose an experience that supports AFK transfers
Some developers build systems that save progress and move an idle player to another server. Players can use such a system only when the experience’s developer has implemented it; there is no normal Roblox setting that adds it to someone else’s game.

Return and interact manually
Coming back periodically and providing real input is the most dependable player-controlled option. The exact input Roblox recognizes can vary, so do not rely on a particular button press or movement as a guaranteed timer reset.
Do private servers stop AFK disconnects?
No documented private-server setting disables idle protection. A private server controls who can join and may make it easier to use an experience’s own AFK system or avoid other players, but it is not an anti-idle fix. Roblox’s private-server FAQ explains that availability and pricing depend on the experience creator; paid servers may renew monthly.

Are auto-clickers, macros, or anti-AFK scripts a good idea?
They are not a recommended or guaranteed solution. Roblox’s third-party app policy restricts automated in-game actions, with a narrow exception for certain experiences expressly designed around AFK play. That is not blanket permission to automate any experience. Roblox also says modified applications and software that changes how Roblox works can result in enforcement, including account deletion; see its anti-cheat guidance and cheating and exploiting policy.
- Never give an “anti-AFK” download your Roblox password, browser cookie, session, or remote access to your device.
- Avoid executors advertised as undetectable, modified clients, and scripts that simulate movement or input.
- Do not assume a tool is safe or allowed just because it clicks or presses a key periodically.
- Automation may still fail if the experience kicks you, the connection drops, or the app is suspended.
For Roblox developers: respond to idle players
Roblox exposes Player.Idled for an experience to react when a player is idle. It is a developer API event, not a way to disable or reset the platform’s idle timer. The API documents the idle-time argument:

end)A developer can use the event to warn the player, save progress, move them to an AFK area, or stop unnecessary systems. If the game supports moving idle players between servers, save the state the player needs before starting the transfer and handle failures or rejoining.

An early disconnect may have nothing to do with idleness. Roblox identifies error 277 as a lost connection to the game server; connection timeouts, outdated clients, app crashes, and experience-specific kicks are different problems. Roblox’s bug-reporting and error-code information distinguishes these cases.
- Read the exact error message or code rather than assuming it was an AFK kick.
- Rejoin the experience and update Roblox if the client is out of date.
- Restart the device and router, then test another experience to see whether the problem is game-specific.
- Review VPN, firewall, antivirus, and restrictive network settings if connection errors continue.
- On mobile, check whether screen locking or switching apps suspends Roblox. On a laptop, check sleep and network power settings.
- If only one experience is affected, contact its developer or report the issue. If multiple experiences fail, contact Roblox Support.
Server shutdowns, updates, and device or network interruptions can also end a session even when you are actively playing.
