To set up the Logitech G Astro A50 X, connect Xbox Series X|S or PlayStation 5 to the base station with HDMI, pass the video signal from the base station to your display, and connect the base station to that console by USB. For PC or Mac, connect the headset system to the computer over USB-C. You can use an older HDMI display; HDMI 2.1 is not required, though some high-end display features may be limited.

Before you connect the A50 X

Check which device you are setting up: Xbox Series X|S and PS5 use the base station in the HDMI video path as well as a USB connection to the console. PC and Mac use USB-C for audio. Logitech lists all three platforms as compatible and describes PLAYSYNC as a way to connect and switch between them from the headset.

Use the platform-specific diagrams in Logitech’s A50 X setup guide or the A50 X Wireless Headset Setup Guide for the exact base-station ports and cable routing. The instructions below describe the connection layout; they do not substitute for the diagram’s port labels.

Connect the A50 X to Xbox Series X|S

  1. Route video through the base station. Connect the Xbox and display to the base station’s HDMI connections as shown in Logitech’s Xbox diagram: console video goes into the base station, then from the base station to the display.
  2. Connect USB to the Xbox. Use the USB connection shown in the same diagram to connect the base station to the console.
  3. Check the display signal. Confirm that the display is receiving video through the base station. If you see a black screen, flickering, or image artifacts, see the cable guidance below.

Logitech lists HDMI 2.1 passthrough, 4K at 120 Hz, Game/Chat mixing, and Dolby Atmos among the A50 X’s Xbox capabilities. These are manufacturer-stated features, not a guarantee that every console, display, cable, and configuration will deliver the same output.

Connect the A50 X to PlayStation 5

  1. Put the base station in the HDMI path. Follow Logitech’s PS5 diagram to connect the console’s HDMI output to the base station and route HDMI from the base station to the display.
  2. Connect USB to the PS5. Use the USB connection and port shown in Logitech’s PS5-specific diagram.
  3. Verify picture and sound. Check that video reaches the display and that the headset receives audio. For exact port routing, use the official A50 X platform guide.

Logitech lists HDMI 2.1 passthrough, Game/Chat mixing, and 3D Audio for the PS5 connection. Dolby Atmos is an Xbox capability in Logitech’s product description; do not assume that Xbox-specific feature applies to the PS5 setup.

Connect the A50 X to PC or Mac

  1. Connect over USB-C. Connect the A50 X to the computer using the USB-C connection specified by Logitech.
  2. Select and configure audio on the computer as needed. Logitech describes PC/Mac audio support with Dolby Atmos or Windows Sonic, Game/Chat mixing, and Logitech G HUB customization. Available options depend on the computer and its software.

The PC/Mac connection is USB-C audio; the console HDMI passthrough arrangement is not part of this computer connection. Keep the computer’s display cabling separate unless a Logitech diagram for your setup says otherwise.

Switch between connected systems

Logitech describes PLAYSYNC as supporting connections to Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC/Mac, with system switching from the headset. Follow the setup guide for each platform’s connection, then use the headset’s PLAYSYNC control to switch among the systems you have connected. Logitech’s description establishes the intended capability, not that every combination will work without correct cabling and configuration.

Does the A50 X need an HDMI 2.1 TV?

No. Logitech Support says, “Your A50 X does not require an HDMI 2.1 TV.” Logitech also says the headset is backward compatible with older HDMI versions. With a display that is not HDMI 2.1, however, advanced features such as 120 Hz HDR, Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) may be limited. The display, console, and cables also affect which features are available.

Troubleshoot a black screen, flickering, or artifacts

  • Recheck the HDMI route. For Xbox or PS5, verify that the console and display are connected through the base station in the order shown in Logitech’s platform diagram.
  • Inspect the cables. Logitech advises against older or poor-quality HDMI cables. If you have black screens, flickering, or artifacts, Logitech recommends trying HDMI 2.1-certified cables. It points users to the HDMI Forum’s Ultra High Speed certification program.
  • Change one cable at a time. Cable replacement is conditional troubleshooting advice, not a requirement for every setup. If symptoms persist, consult Logitech’s HDMI compatibility and troubleshooting guidance.

Use instructions for the A50 X, not an earlier A50

The A50 X has its own platform setup guide for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC. Follow the A50 X diagrams rather than carrying over port locations or connection steps from an earlier Astro A50 generation.
