If Cities: Skylines keeps crashing on PS4, check that the game is fully installed, install available game and system updates, then test a new game without loading your existing city. Those steps help narrow down the problem; none is a guaranteed fix. PlayStation’s guidance is general PS4 crash advice, and the official sources reviewed do not confirm a specific Cities: Skylines crash bug.
First, note when the crash happens
Before changing anything, record whether the game closes during launch, while loading one particular city, or after gameplay begins. Write down the exact error code or message. This information helps distinguish a problem that appears tied to one save from one that also affects a new game.

Confirm installation and check for a game update
If you have a digital copy, make sure it has finished installing. To check for an update, highlight Cities: Skylines on the PS4 home screen, press Options, then select Check for Update. Update PS4 system software

Test a new game without loading your existing city
Start a new game as a diagnostic test; do not delete your existing save. PlayStation advises: “Play the game from the beginning, without an existing game save, to check if the game save is corrupted.” If a new game works but one saved city crashes, that is useful evidence to report, but it does not prove the save is the cause. Restore licenses
PlayStation says restoring licenses may help when a game crashes. On PS4, go to Settings > Account Management > Restore Licenses > Restore. Restore licenses on PlayStation

Back up saved data before reinstalling
If you decide to delete and reinstall the game, first confirm that your saved data is backed up and know where the backup is stored. PlayStation describes copying PS4 saved data to a USB storage device or using PlayStation Plus online storage before deleting and reinstalling an application. Use the crash pattern to narrow down what to report
| What you observe | What to check or report |

| The game crashes before the title screen | Note whether installation is complete and whether game and system updates are current. Record the exact error and when it appears. |
| Only one saved city crashes while a new game works | Report which city fails and that a new game worked. This points to a difference involving that save, but does not establish the cause. |
| Both new and existing games crash | Report that the issue occurs without the existing save, along with the error code and the steps that reproduce it. |
| Other games also crash | Include that detail when contacting PlayStation Support; it indicates the issue is not limited to this title. |
These patterns are useful observations, not confirmed diagnoses. The official sources reviewed do not establish a Cities: Skylines-specific cause or guarantee that any one step will resolve the crash.

PlayStation includes Rebuild Database among later game-start troubleshooting steps. Consider it only after the basic checks above. Avoid treating console initialization or other reset steps as routine fixes: they can affect data, and PlayStation’s guidance calls for a backup before destructive troubleshooting. If the crash continues, contact PlayStation Support or the game publisher with the error code, when the crash occurs, whether a new game also fails, and the steps needed to reproduce it.
