Civilization VII’s 1.0.1 Patch 2, announced on February 10, 2025, addressed player feedback from Advanced Access with changes to gameplay, AI, the camera, and the interface. It applied to Windows PC, Mac, Linux, and Steam Deck. The update was separate from a smaller February 7 patch focused on stability and a Mac sound issue.
What Patch 1.0.1 Patch 2 changed
The publisher described Patch 2 as the first in a planned series, with larger, more substantial updates to come later. Its notes list adjustments and fixes across several parts of the game, but do not report measured effects such as a quantified reduction in crashes or changes to performance.
Gameplay and settlement management
- Fixed Ages ending sooner than intended in Epic and Marathon speed games.
- Changed City States so they become Friendly Independent Powers at an Age Transition instead of disappearing, and gave them more units in the Exploration and Modern Ages.
- Fixed several Naval Combat inconsistencies: attack strength, reciprocal damage, and movement into the tile of a defeated unit.
- Stopped the final Legacy Path milestone from adding Modern Age progress, giving players more time to complete a Victory.
- Made Towns revert automatically to Growing if they are no longer eligible for their selected Focus.
- Made Future Civic repeatable in every Age and increased the repeated costs of Future Tech and Future Civic.
- Fixed negative Food requirements that could result from excessive Growth bonuses.
- Improved Rail Network connections to Settlements over water through Ports.
- Added ways to manage settlement happiness during the Antiquity Age Loyalty Crisis, including the ability to buy Villas in towns.
AI diplomacy and war
- Reduced how often the AI offers high-value Cities in Peace Deals.
- In the Modern Age, the AI is less likely to declare war at the start of the Age and weighs Ideology more when deciding whether to declare war or offer peace.
- Leaders are less inclined toward war when neither side has an Ideology, more inclined toward war when Ideologies oppose each other, and less inclined toward peace with players who have opposing Ideologies.
Camera and interface
- Fixed a native-resolution camera problem where clicking the minimap focused on the lower part of the map.
- Replaced the Simplified Chinese font with the Civilization VI font while further improvements were in progress.
- Fixed Settlement menu access from a non-player Settlement Banner and missing yield icons on buildings after converting a Town to a City.
- Fixed clipped text in the Global Yields Breakdown and added notifications for completed Espionage actions.
- Corrected city projects appearing as purchasable when they were not.
- Moved the current religion to the first position in belief-picker tabs.
- Fixed a healed District’s lingering health bar and missing Leader portraits after relationship changes.
- Improved the alignment of names and portraits in the Age Summary on the Victories Rankings Overview, fixed background color changes in Player Customize, and adjusted loading-screen spacing for Civilization descriptions, unique units, and building icons.
How it differed from the February 7 Advanced Access patch
The February 7 patch was described as a small set of immediate fixes. It included general stability improvements, including fixes for regional game crashes, and addressed Mac system sounds being triggered by in-game keypresses. The February 10 Patch 2 announcement listed a much wider set of gameplay, AI, camera, and UI changes.
Platforms and the cross-play caveat
The February 10 notes covered Windows PC, Mac, Linux, and Steam Deck. At that time, the publisher said PC updates could arrive on a different cadence from console updates, so cross-play between PC and console players was temporarily disabled. Console-to-console cross-platform play and PC-to-PC multiplayer were not affected. This describes the situation reported with that historical patch; it does not establish current cross-play availability.
