- Fully close Diablo IV and Battle.net, then reopen them. Retry the game after both have restarted.
- Check for a game update. In the Battle.net launcher, select Check for Update for Diablo IV. Install an available update before launching again.
- Scan and repair the game files. Open the launcher options for Diablo IV and choose Scan and Repair. When it finishes, retry the game.
- Restart your PC or console. Then launch Diablo IV again.
- If it still fails, check for a wider incident or contact Blizzard Support. Recent reports from other players can help distinguish a problem affecting many people from one specific to your account or device.
Is error 397000 a server outage or an outdated game version?
It can’t be determined from the code by itself. In a Blizzard Forums discussion on December 14, 2023, a Blizzard-hosted response said engineers were aware of a reported issue and working on a resolution, without giving a technical cause. In January 2026, players in several European countries and on PC and Xbox reported the same error; a related forum thread was marked solved the next day. These are examples of dated incidents, not proof that every 397000 report has the same cause.
If several players report the code around the same time, a broader service incident becomes more plausible, although forum posts cannot confirm its technical cause or live status. If reports appear isolated to your account or device, proceed with the client checks and seek Blizzard Support if they do not help.

Could a firewall or network setting cause it?
One PC player in an August 2023 forum discussion said their issue was resolved after changing a third-party firewall setting to allow Diablo IV traffic. That is an individual account, not evidence of a universal fix. Other players have reported varied results, so avoid treating firewall changes as the default solution. The available reports do not substantiate broad port-forwarding, registry edits, VPN use, or disabling security software as guaranteed remedies.
