Recommended Free Tools
For a general PvE Dexterity build in Dark Souls III, the Sellsword Twinblades are a strong starting pick; the Astora Greatsword, Lothric Knight Sword, Brigand Twindaggers, and Scimitar are also frequently recommended. This is a practical, subjective shortlist—not a proven universal top ten. Weapon reinforcement, attributes, infusion, buffs, enemy type, and whether you value PvP or a particular moveset can all change what “best” means.
How this ranking works—and what it can establish
The available evidence supports five commonly recommended candidates, but not a fully verified ten-weapon ranking or controlled weapon-by-weapon comparison. Rather than inventing damage figures or specific rankings for five unsupported entries, this guide ranks the supported choices as a practical starting order for general PvE and explains what would change the order.

Assume a Dexterity-focused character considering Sharp infusion, with weapons compared at the same reinforcement level and attribute values. The order is an editorial judgment, not the result of a damage test. PvP priorities, buffs, DLC access, enemy resistances, and personal comfort with a weapon’s moveset may favor a different choice.
- Sellsword Twinblades — a prominent community recommendation and a natural first weapon to investigate for a fast, paired-weapon playstyle.
- Lothric Knight Sword — another commonly recommended option, worth comparing if you prefer a single sword over paired attacks.
- Astora Greatsword — a community-mentioned choice for players who would rather use a larger weapon than a fast sword.
- Scimitar — a recommended candidate for a lighter, quick weapon style.
- Brigand Twindaggers — a paired option to consider if that moveset appeals to you.
These placements are editorial, not measured results. The community discussion that mentions these weapons is anecdotal, not a controlled comparison; it does not establish that one has the highest damage or is best for every player.

Why a Sharp Dex weapon can be a good fit
Dexterity increases damage on weapons that scale with it. Sharp infusion is a common route for a Dex-focused build because it increases Dexterity scaling, while reducing base damage and lowering or removing Strength scaling on some weapons. Those tradeoffs mean Sharp is not automatically best for every weapon or attribute spread. See the Dark Souls Wiki’s Sharp Gem reference for its mechanics discussion.
The wiki describes soft caps at 40 and 80 Dexterity in the context of regulation patch 1.32, and notes that Sharp scaling returns are nonlinear at high Dexterity. This is version-specific information from a community-maintained wiki, not a freshly confirmed official patch note. Treat those values as context for comparing builds, not a universal instruction to stop leveling at a particular number. The Dexterity page discusses the scaling and soft caps.

How to compare weapons for your own build
Match the conditions first
Compare candidates at the same reinforcement level and with the same character attributes, infusion, and buff assumptions. A weapon’s attack rating under one setup cannot fairly be compared with another weapon’s rating under different conditions. The SoulsPlanner Dark Souls III weapon attack calculator lets you set Dexterity and Sharp options to check your own build.
Do not rank by scaling letter alone
A letter grade is a broad category, not a precise damage value. Weapons with the same grade can have different underlying scaling strengths, so the grade alone cannot tell you which produces more damage. The Dark Souls Wiki’s parameter-bonus explanation covers this distinction. Compare the calculated attack rating under matched settings, then consider whether the weapon’s speed, reach, stamina demands, and moveset suit the fights you face.

Let the moveset decide close calls
Damage is only one part of choosing a weapon. Paired attacks, attack speed, reach, stamina use, weapon skill, and how comfortably you can land hits matter in ordinary play. Enemy type can change the practical result, too. If two options look close in the calculator, try their movesets against the enemies you find difficult rather than assuming the higher displayed rating will always perform better.

A Reddit discussion of “best weapons for each infusion?” names Sellsword Twinblades, Astora Greatsword, Lothric Knight Sword, Brigand Twindaggers, and Scimitar among commonly raised choices. That is useful as a shortlist of weapons players discuss, but it is anecdotal rather than a systematic test. It does not supply matched reinforcement and stat conditions, prove an order, or settle which weapon is best for your PvE or PvP use.

For your own decision, use the calculator to compare the options you can actually equip, then choose based on the moveset and situations you care about. A PvP-focused player may value practical reach or attack patterns differently from someone choosing a general PvE weapon.
