Bungie has not confirmed a current Destiny 2 bug specifically causing crackling or muffled stereo audio after the latest update. Its latest dated known-issues section, updated July 7, 2026, does not list that symptom; the page also says its issue list is targeted rather than complete. Check that your platform’s audio output matches your actual speakers or headphones before treating the problem as a confirmed game bug.
Is Destiny 2’s latest update causing crackling or muffled stereo audio?
That cause has not been established. Bungie’s known-issues page marks its Monument of Triumph section as last updated July 7, 2026, and does not list stereo crackling or muffled audio there. The page describes itself as a targeted list, not a complete inventory, so the omission does not prove that no players are affected.
An older Edge of Fate section, dated December 1, 2025, mentions reports of occasional audio dropouts in PvP. Dropouts are not the same symptom as crackling or muffled stereo sound, and that entry does not establish a cause for this report. A July 7, 2026 search result names Destiny 2 Update 9.7.0.3, but the update page could not be opened and no available evidence links that version to this audio problem.
The report’s platform, output device, connection method, and reproducibility are not established. There is also no attributable prevalence figure for this particular symptom, so forum posts should not be used to estimate how widespread it is.

Check your audio output configuration first
Bungie’s Destiny Audio Guide advises matching the platform’s output format to the physical speaker or headphone setup. It warns that selecting 5.1 or 7.1 on equipment that supports only stereo can cause problems with directional audio cues; for two speakers or TV speakers, it recommends Stereo. This is a sensible configuration check, not a confirmed cure for crackling or muffled audio.
- Identify the real output setup. Note whether you are using two speakers, TV speakers, a surround system, or headphones, and how the device is connected.
- Match the platform’s channel setting to that setup. For two speakers or TV speakers, choose Stereo rather than 5.1 or 7.1.
- Compare the sound in Destiny 2. Change only the output setting you are checking, then see whether the crackling or muffling changes.
Check the PC Bluetooth and voice-chat case
Bungie documents playback problems when PC players use Bluetooth headphones with in-game voice chat enabled. This guidance applies to that specific combination; it is not a general fix for every headset or platform.

Try disabling spatial or 3D audio only as a diagnostic check
On April 19, 2023, Bungie Help replied to a then-reported distorted-audio issue with advice to disable 3D audio, including native PS5 3D audio or Atmos/Windows Sonic on PC or Xbox. That is historical advice for a separate report; it does not show that Bungie is investigating the present symptom or that disabling spatial audio fixes it.

What to include in a report if the problem continues
Bungie directs players to its Help Forum for issues not included on the targeted known-issues list. A useful report should let other players and support staff distinguish a game-specific symptom from an output or routing problem.

Should you buy a headset, adapter, cable, or speakers to fix it?
No cited Bungie guidance identifies a headset, USB audio adapter, HDMI cable, replacement speakers, or soundbar as a solution to this particular report. Start with the settings and comparisons above; buying hardware is not an evidence-backed fix for this symptom.
A Bungie Help forum post from April 18, 2023 used the phrase “Getting severe crackling in the audio since the latest patch on ps5,” but its date and platform do not establish that it shares the cause or circumstances of a current report.
