It brought the Lesser Evils back to Sanctuary, with Azmodan leading the assault and the angel Hadriel guiding players. The season is now historical: Blizzard later announced that Season of Reckoning launched on April 27, 2026.
When did Season of Divine Intervention release?
Blizzard’s announced launch time was December 11, 2025, at 8:30 p.m. PST. That is Blizzard’s published timezone; players elsewhere may have seen a different local time or calendar date. Blizzard later announced Season of Reckoning for April 27, 2026, so Divine Intervention is not the current season.

What was the Season 11 theme?
The seasonal story centered on the Lesser Evils invading Sanctuary. Azmodan led the assault, while the angel Hadriel helped players. On the Seasonal Realm, players could follow an angelic light in a major city to begin the seasonal journey. Blizzard described Azmodan as the first new world boss and said, “Azmodan is now a permanent world boss across both Seasonal and Eternal realms.”

What changed in gameplay and progression?
Season Rank replaced Seasonal Realm Renown progression
Season Rank advanced through objectives, with Capstone Dungeons required to move up ranks. Rank rewards included Skill Points, Smoldering Ashes, cosmetics, and Paragon points. Smoldering Ashes could be spent on Season Blessings. Seasonal Realm Renown was removed in favor of Season Rank, while Eternal Realm Renown remained permanent.
Tempering and Masterworking received revised item journeys
Blizzard announced that Tempering would no longer be randomly applied and that Masterworking would follow a distinct, linear path. These were announced system changes; the season announcement does not establish particular build recommendations or outcomes for individual items.
Monster encounters changed across Sanctuary
Blizzard said monster packs would group less, Champion rarity would change to champion packs, and more than 20 new monster affixes would be added. Elite minions could inherit some affixes. These monster-combat changes applied across Sanctuary.

Sanctification was an end-stage item upgrade with possible outcomes including a bonus Legendary power, improving an Affix into a Greater Affix, adding a special Sanctification Affix, replacing an Affix with a random Sanctification Affix, or adding 5–25 Quality. The outcomes were possibilities, not a guaranteed combination.
The key trade-off was that Sanctification made an item unmodifiable. Blizzard recommended waiting until an item had received its final upgrade before sanctifying it. Heavenly Sigils could be used to reach the Heavenly Forge for Ancestral items and were earned in Torment difficulties.

Were the Tower and Leaderboards available at launch?
No. Blizzard’s season announcement said the Tower and Leaderboards would return in Patch 2.5.2, then targeted for early 2026. The Tower was described as a timed, multi-stage beta dungeon. That was the plan announced at the time; it does not by itself establish when or how the features were later implemented or what access looks like now.
What seasonal rewards were announced?
The free Battle Pass Reliquary included rewards such as the Gildenvein Mount, Brimstone Crusader Barding Mount Armor, and Celestial Iris Town Portal. Blizzard also described a premium bundle. These were tied to that season and should not be taken as currently obtainable rewards.
How does Divine Intervention fit into Diablo IV now?
Blizzard’s later Season of Reckoning announcement says that season launched with Lord of Hatred on April 27, 2026, at 4:30 p.m. PDT. Blizzard described Reckoning as including Season Rank, Season Blessings, and the return of the Tower and Leaderboards, alongside system upgrades, but no season-specific story, theme, or gameplay elements. Blizzard also states that Lord of Hatred and Vessel of Hatred require the Diablo IV base game; that prerequisite does not establish current retailer availability.
