Doctor Strange is a Vanguard built to protect space, control routes, and set up team damage. Use Shield of the Seraphim to help your team cross or hold a dangerous area, build Dark Magic with Daggers of Denak, and spend the meter with Maelstrom of Madness before it peaks for too long. Save Eye of Agamotto for a moment when allies can deal damage during its three-second follow-up window.
This guide reflects official balance notes available on October 8, 2026. The announced October 9 update was not yet live at that cutoff.
What Doctor Strange does for a team
Strange’s job is not simply to deal damage from the front. His barrier helps create a safer path through incoming fire, his portal can move the team between locations, and Eye of Agamotto creates a brief opening for coordinated damage. Daggers and Maelstrom give him ways to contribute damage while managing the risk attached to his Dark Magic meter.
Choose between holding space with the shield and spending Dark Magic for close-range pressure by weighing team exposure, the meter and ability cooldowns you have left, whether allies can follow up, and what objective or route you gain. There is no single universally optimal ability sequence established by the official descriptions.

Doctor Strange’s abilities and how to use them
Daggers of Denak: build Dark Magic
Daggers of Denak fires delayed projectiles, and hits build Dark Magic through Price of Magic. Official August and September 2026 updates set the daggers to 18 damage per hit, 12 charges, 80 m/s projectile speed, and a 0.8-second interval between casts. These are the documented values as of October 8, 2026; older guides may list earlier values.
Use the daggers to contribute damage and build the resource you can later spend with Maelstrom. Because the projectiles are delayed, account for travel time rather than assuming damage lands immediately.

Shield of the Seraphim: protect a crossing or hold
The shield creates a protective barrier. The July 2026 balance update set Strange’s base health to 650 and the shield value to 850. With Invisible Woman as a Team-Up partner, the official update adds 150 shield value, for a stated total of 1,000.
Raise the barrier when your team needs to cross exposed ground or maintain a position under pressure. While channeling it, consider that your ability to contribute other actions is limited; choose a moment when the protection is worth that trade.

Price of Magic and Maelstrom of Madness: manage the meter
Price of Magic builds Dark Magic when Strange’s attacks hit. Maelstrom of Madness spends that meter to damage nearby enemies; the official profile lists its damage as 1.3 per Dark Magic point. Leaving the meter at its peak too long triggers Anti-Heal, so watch the meter and spend before that penalty becomes the cost of holding it.
Think of the loop as build, assess, spend: land dagger hits, check whether you can safely get close enough to use Maelstrom, then avoid sitting at the peak while waiting for an ideal moment that may not arrive. Spending is most useful when enemies are nearby and your team can capitalize on the pressure.

Cloak of Levitation: dash and short flight
Cloak of Levitation provides a dash and short flight. Use the mobility to reposition when the frontline shifts or to adjust your approach; do not treat it as a replacement for deciding whether the destination is safe.
Pentagram of Farallah: move the team with purpose
The portal links two locations and allows all units to travel through it. The official profile lists a 20-second duration and a 180-second cooldown. Because it is a major team rotation tool with a long cooldown, agree on the destination and timing before opening it. A portal is valuable when it gives the team a useful route or objective opportunity, not merely because it is available.

Eye of Agamotto: create a follow-up window
Eye of Agamotto affects enemies in a listed 10 m spherical radius and deals 60 damage. It separates nearby enemies’ Souls from their bodies for three seconds; damage dealt to those Souls transfers to their physical bodies. The practical value is the short window for allied follow-up, so coordinate the cast with teammates who are ready to deal damage. The effect creates an opportunity, not a guaranteed elimination.

Use the ultimate when enemies are close enough to be affected and your team can act during the three-second soul-separation window. It is less useful as an isolated cast if allies cannot follow up. Before committing, check the enemy grouping, your allies’ position and readiness, and whether the fight or objective makes the opportunity worth spending the ultimate.
- Look for: nearby enemies, allies within reach of the fight, and a clear chance to deal damage during the effect.
- Coordinate: signal or time the cast with allied damage rather than expecting the ultimate alone to finish targets.
- Avoid assuming: the listed radius and transfer effect do not establish guaranteed kills or a universal best timing.
How to choose between protection, burst, and a portal

Current balance and version context
These figures reflect the official changes documented through October 8, 2026, rather than the October 9 update, which had been announced but was not yet live at the cutoff.
- July 6, 2026: base health increased from 575 to 650; Shield of the Seraphim increased from 700 to 850. The Doctor Strange Team-Up Anchor bonus health was removed. Invisible Woman as partner adds 150 shield value.
- August 4, 2026: Daggers of Denak changed from 16 to 18 damage per hit and from 10 to 12 projectile charges. With Hulk, Gamma Maelstrom’s cooldown changed from eight to six seconds.
- September 8, 2026: dagger projectile speed changed from 60 to 80 m/s and the interval between casts from 0.9 to 0.8 seconds. With Hulk, Gamma Maelstrom spell-field damage falloff was removed.
- February 9, 2026: official notes announced Psionic Vortex through the Invisible Woman and Doctor Strange Team-Up. Check in-game Team-Up availability, since the announcement alone does not establish whether it remains available now.
The official hero profile describes the role and abilities but is dated November 23, 2024, so later balance notes are important for interpreting changing values. A September 8, 2026 competitive snapshot transcribed by rivals.gs from NetEase’s official Hero Hot List reported a 10.1% pick rate and 47.9% win rate. Those figures are one dated snapshot, not a verdict on the hero’s strength: they do not by themselves explain rank, map, team composition, or cause.
