Not directly through PlayStation Store: PlayStation’s recommended way to gift a digital PS4 game is to give the recipient a PlayStation Store gift card. They redeem the credit and choose the game themselves, rather than receiving a specific game from you.
How to gift a digital PS4 game
- Buy a PlayStation Store gift card from an online or local retailer. Some online retailers deliver a code by email.
- Check that the code is for the country where the recipient’s PSN account is registered. PlayStation says voucher codes can be used only in the country tied to that account.
- Give the recipient the code. If you want to make the gift more personal, PlayStation’s Gifting Toolkit lets you create a printable PDF or digital voucher card with a design and message. The toolkit presentation is separate; you still need to buy the gift-card code.
- The recipient redeems the code through PlayStation Store on PS4, PS5, the PlayStation App, or a web browser, then uses the credit to make an eligible purchase.
PlayStation describes Store gift cards as “the go-to way of gifting digital games on PS5, PS5 Pro and PS4” on its official US gift-card page. The credit can be used for eligible digital Store items such as games, add-ons, subscriptions, virtual currency, and pre-orders. It is flexible credit, not a transfer of a selected game.
What a PlayStation Store gift card does—and does not—buy
A gift card is for digital PlayStation Store purchases. PlayStation’s US page says it cannot be used to buy physical products or PlayStation Gear merchandise. The recipient must redeem the code and complete the purchase; you are not checking out a particular digital game as a gift on their behalf.
Can you send a specific digital game instead?
PlayStation’s current gift-card guidance points to wallet credit as the supported gifting route rather than a direct digital-game gifting checkout. New Game Network reports that Sony removed direct digital gifting in April 2019; that date is reported by the secondary source, not established by PlayStation’s current gift-card page. See New Game Network’s account of PS4 game-gifting workarounds.

#1 Best Overall
- Reawaken a Classic – Resident Evil 4 preserves the essence of the original game, now reconstructed using Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine to deliver realistic visuals and additional narrative depth to the iconic story that was not possible at the time of the original release.
- Modernized Gameplay – The team from 2019’s Resident Evil 2 returns to build upon the series’ modern approach to survival horror. Engage in frenzied combat with the Ganados villagers, explore a European village gripped by madness, and solve puzzles to access new areas and collect useful items for Leon and Ashley’s constant struggle to survive.
- Overwhelming Hordes – Face hordes of rabid enemies that threaten to overwhelm Leon with even more diverse methods of attack than in the original release.
- Survive on a Knife’s Edge – Years of intense training have taught Leon new ways to use his knife, helping to even the odds against the unrelenting onslaught of enemies. By parrying enemy attacks, you can avoid debilitating damage and evade lunging enemies seeking to grab Leon and hold him in place. Make smart use of scavenged knives to deliver precise finishing moves on vulnerable enemies, and even use the element of surprise to quietly dispatch unsuspecting foes before they break.
- Reimagined Story – Resident Evil 4 dials up the original release’s key feelings of loneliness and the fear of enemies blinded by zealotry, while providing more nuanced depictions of the character motivations and relationships that defined the 2005 survival horror icon.
Before you buy
- Match the country. Confirm the recipient’s PSN account country before purchasing or sending a code; a voucher is restricted to that country.
- Set expectations. The recipient chooses what to buy with the credit, so a gift card does not guarantee they receive one particular title.
- Choose digital credit for digital games. Store gift cards do not pay for physical products or PlayStation Gear on PlayStation’s US page.
